Wilmer and all, It's also possible that John Bishop of Frederick co. (the Opeckon area) also came from the Monmouth co., NJ area. Although he was a brief inhabitant of Bucks co., PA, he's not in the records there, nor does he match up with the other Bishops of Chester co., PA, etc. He married a Quaker girl in 1737, but the strange thing is -- he married her in Bergen county, NJ. They eloped, I guess, but Bergen county was sure an awful out of the way place to travel from Bucks. The m. certificate states they were both 'of Bucks county'. The only reason I can think of, is that the place in Bergen they married may have been close to Monmouth and Long Island. Also, in 1744 John Bishop wanted to have a VA deed made out to Wm Shrieve, who hailed from Rhode Island. I've seen a book on the Stillwell family that mentions a John Bishop in Monmouth in the 1670s. Anyway, it was interesting to see where some Frederick settlers came from. Thanks for that information, Tom Bishop ==== OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA Mailing List ==== List Problems?
