    1. Re: Settlers from New Jersey to Old Frederick County
    2. Wilmer and all, It's also possible that John Bishop of Frederick co. (the Opeckon area) also came from the Monmouth co., NJ area. Although he was a brief inhabitant of Bucks co., PA, he's not in the records there, nor does he match up with the other Bishops of Chester co., PA, etc. He married a Quaker girl in 1737, but the strange thing is -- he married her in Bergen county, NJ. They eloped, I guess, but Bergen county was sure an awful out of the way place to travel from Bucks. The m. certificate states they were both 'of Bucks county'. The only reason I can think of, is that the place in Bergen they married may have been close to Monmouth and Long Island. Also, in 1744 John Bishop wanted to have a VA deed made out to Wm Shrieve, who hailed from Rhode Island. I've seen a book on the Stillwell family that mentions a John Bishop in Monmouth in the 1670s. Anyway, it was interesting to see where some Frederick settlers came from. Thanks for that information, Tom Bishop ==== OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA Mailing List ==== List Problems?
