I'm back to the list after a couple of months so thought that I'd try again. I'm looking for the parents, etc, of my ggrandfather, Mathias CLASPY. He consistently (in the Census) claims to have been born in Maryland ca 1822. He moved to Westmoreland County, PA in the early 1840s, I have searched the MD census records for that period but can't find any Claspys. I have, however, found some in the area of Harper's Ferry between 1820 and 1860, but he doesn't fit the pre-1850 data. It's my perception that the state boundaries around Harper's Ferry may have been a bit fuzzy during the first half of the 19th century and before. I plan to do some genealogical travel to MD later this summer. Can anyone suggest libraries or other locations that I should visit? Is Annapolis the best place? Thanks for any help. Paul C.
