    1. Elizbeth (Somerville?) Shutt
    2. Hello, I am a descendant of Elizabeth Shutt whose husband, Henry Shutt had apprenticed himself to learn the hatmakers trade in Shepherdstown, VA (West VA) Elizabeth's records indicate that she was born 6 May 1779 in Virginia. She had a granddaughter through her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Shutt Hazell, Elizabeth Somerville Hazell. She had bestowed a special deed of gift to that granddaughter, of a young slave girl which was recorded in November Court of Orange County, NC in 1828. This leads this researcher to believe that the granddaughter was named for her, as she did not make similar deeds of gift to her many other grandchildren. Henry Shutt had lived in Boonesboro, Maryland, just across the river from Shepherdstown, WVA, and it seems reasonable that he had found his bride in the general area of his apprenticeship. He took his family from the area to settle into Hillsborough, NC in Orange County. Given the early date of Elizbeth Shutt's birth, it would seem that her family would have been included in the records of old Frederick County, VA. I am hoping that someone will recognize her family. Very best regards, John Fox Winston Salem, NC
