BUSHMAN COLLECTION IS A BOON TO VALLEY GENEALOGISTS "Katherine Gentry Bushman was a professional genealogist, author and local historian, as well as a charter member of the Augusta Co. Historical Society.......She was also past regent of the Thomas Hughart Chapter of the VA D.A.R. She died in 1997. Now her genealogical research files are available at the Library of Virginia. The collection includes family research files ,subject files, compilations and oversize genealogical chars and maps. The majority of the collection is family research files including correspondence with clients for whom Bushman did work. Bushman abstracted genealogical notes from court records, published sources, Bible records, patriotic organization applications, census records, and genealogical charts. These materials also appear in the files. The Bushman collection is an important source of information on the Shenandoah Valley region and the Augusta County area. There is substantial information on the Alexander, Bell, Bushman, Craig, Curry, Davis, Fauber, Greaves, Hogshead, KINKEAD, McCutchan, Polk, Rankin, Robertson, Sheers, Steele , Tate and Wilson families.
