I am familiar with this line and have been trying to connect John Groves of near Winchester, Frederick Co and his son Solomon H. who later moved to Maysville, Hardy Co., VA now Grant, WV. The time is right, the surname is right but I have no connection. Solomon married Fanny Marquis daughter of William Marquis/Marquess or Marquiss in Winchester on May 09, 1798. Chocybrown@aol.com wrote:JDG Checking an old database file I found the following GROVE connection to the GOCHENOUR family. The GOCHENOUR family married into the Stephen RITTER family twice. This GOCHENOUR family was from Hardy County, West Virginia (then VA). They moved to Licking County, Ohio and then later to LaSalle County, Illinois (across the McLean County, Illinois county line). Christian GROVE b: 8 Sep 1776; d: 20 Apr 1844 near Luray, Virginia son of Christian GROVE and Anna ROADS/RHODES 1st Marriage: Mary GOCHENOUR b: 7 Dec 1779 daughter of Joseph GOCHENOUR (1752-1808) CHILDREN: Anna (b:3 Mar 1803); Emanuel (b:12 Sep 1812); Barbara; Joseph; Rebecca; Jacob; Elizabeth; Samuel; Katherine; Isaac; and Noah. 2nd Marriage: Esther MUSSLEMAN on 30 Sep 1800 CHILD: Susannah of Page County, Virginia; buried in the Jonas Gochenour Cemetery, St. Luke, Shenandoah Co., VA. Susannah GROVE married Jacob GOCHENOUR on 9 April 1804. This is strong evidence that the St Louisville, Newton Twp., Licking Co., Ohio settlers had strong connections from the old Frederick County, Virginia. ==== OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA Mailing List ==== OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA LIST ADMINISTRATOR Old-Frederick-Co-Va-Admin@RootsWeb.com Glenn Belcher ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >From the Hills of West Virginia to Lake Erie's Shore. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
