    1. [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] LICKING CO., OHIO FROM FREDERICK CO., VA
    2. In the "Frederick County Land Book 1782", I have a photocopy of a page that reads: "John Glover; 100; 4/;20." (The columns are as follows: Proprietors of the Land; Quantity; Taxes; Total Value.). I just happened to have this page copied because it had another entry that was of interest to me. I also have a photocopy of a page from "Winchester Land Book, 1788" listing John Grove, as well as Joseph Holmes. The entries state that John Grove owns one Lot and Joseph Holmes owns two Lots. The yearly rent on John Grove's lot is quite a bit lower in comparison to the Lot rent paid by Joseph Holmes. Perhaps there were more improvements on the Holmes Lots?? I have the entire 1815 tax list for both Frederick and Shenandoah County and I see no entries for any Glovers. I, too, have Grandparents that lived in Hardy County, West Virginia that had married into the Stephen Ritter family. I do know that Stephen, besides being a farmer, property owner, tavern inn owner, owned a stageline. I have found evidence that they returned to Frederick County, VA for at least a visit. While keeping their holdings in Licking County, Ohio, they moved to McLean County, Illinois returning to St. Lousiville, Licking County, Ohio where they are buried in the Evans Cemetery. I do not know how or why they moved West with their whole family; but I suspect they took family and friends that we do not know have a connection with them. I hope this helps----------it seems our early ancestors really got around!
