This is just a guess as to which county in PA the Marquis went but my Washington White and wife Mary Strahan/Strahin White moved to Greene County PA after 1817 when thier first child was born. They were first in Preston Co VA/WV and there was a Enoch Calvert who I think also came from Frederick County, VA and I believe was kin to Washington White. His mother was Mary Calvert (brother Jesse Calvert stayed in Frederick Co, VA) Lots of the names I have seen in Frederick appear in Greene County. You should borrow a history of Greene County via Inter-library loan. I have been trying to find the group that Washington White migrated west with. Maria E. Drive old US 50 from Winchester to Red House Maryland. At Red House you can continue on US 50 to Parkersburg, WV and the Ohio River. Turn North and West an you go to Oakland, MD and if you continue West you hit the Cheat River which runs into the Monongahela River which becomes one third of the Ohio River at Pittsburg, PA. Follow Keyser's Ridge North until you hit the National Road or US 40 an go West and you hit the Ohio River at Wheeling, WV You could also float down the Yough. River and do the same thing. The oldest communities in the area were in what is now southern PA. but was Western Virginia then. Others migrated west from Cumberland, MD. "Maria E. Would anyone have any history of the early settlers of Back Creek VA. I am looking for any information for a Teter Barnes and possibility John Shinnabarry, or a spelling close to Shinnabarry. The name has been badly spelled over the years. The family should have been in this area in the 1760/1780 time period. Hope someone can help with my Brick Wall. Thanks Sue
