In case this is of interest, here is some more Holmes trivia: A few of my Baker family bought land that was originally part of a very large tract of land in Hampshire Co. called the Holmes survey. The deeds are from the devisees of Mrs. Elizabeth Holmes of Winchester, who in turn inherited the land from her husband, Hugh Holmes, also of Winchester. Both their wills were recorded in Frederick Co., VA. These are Elizabeth's heirs as named as grantors on the deeds (1843 and 1845): 26 Dec. 1843, to John Y. Baker, from: David Holmes Conrad and his wife, Nancy Addison of Berkeley Co., VA; Robert Young Conrad and wife Elizabeth Whiting, of Frederick Co., VA; David Holmes McGuire and wife Eliza Gwynn Page, of Clarke Co., VA 24 July 1845, to Jesse Baker, from: David H. Conrad and wife Nancy (acknowledged in Berkeley Co.); David H. McGuire and wife Eliza G. (acknowledged in Clarke Co.) Robert Y. Conrad and wife Elizabeth (acknowledged in Frederick Co.) We see that not all deeds are created equal! Only the first one gave the wives' full names.... Several months ago some folks on this list sent me some very helpful information about my Stribling family. I am again searching for information on the deaths of William Stribling and his wife in Frederick Co, VA in about 1748. I am not sure if this is the correct list because I have the location as Winchester so perhaps I should be sending this to another list. I am also searching for information about Benjamin Taylor, wife Elizabeth, and daughter Mary Taylor. Thanks. Patricia Max
I haven't written to the list for a while, so thought I'd try again. I have been looking for any information on David Julian Girard, born 1857. His death certificate says he was born in Frederick County, Virginia. I haven't been able to find anything prior to his coming to California "as a young man" as his obituary said. If anyone has information on this family, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. My thanks Juanita in Oregon
