I recently purchased a cd containing information on Jefferson Co., (W)VA genealogy. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the marriage, in 1858, of a Frederick Co., VA couple. The marriage announcement appeared in an Apr, 1858 issue of the Va Free Press ( out of Charles Town, (W)VA). It noted that Adam WINDLE and Hannah D. NELSON were wed by a Rev. John S. DEAL(E), on the bridge, at Harpers Ferry. Question: Was this something "romantic" to travel to be married "on the bridge"? The news item stated that the couple was from Frederick Co.. Has anyone else had relatives who were married "on the bridge". Maybe a more involved announcement would tell of the tradition? Thanks for your comments. Karen Nelson Hangsleben
