    1. [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] Re: Robinson, Middlesex Co., VA 1700s
    2. Christopher Robinson
    3. Ozzie, Sorry, it appears your John Robinson is abt. one generation before my current info. I believe I am connected to John Thomas Robinson, b. abt 1780, the father of my ggg-father, Richard J. Robinson, b. abt. 1812. Richards siblings appear to be as listed: Beverly W., Arthur, Samuel, William, Joseph Lewis, John and would have been born abt. early 1800s. I guess John Thomas' father was also a John Robinson born abt. 1738, married a Miss Page, then Miss Lucy Smith (m. 1757). This John would be abt. 10 years off from your John, also with a different wife. I guess your John could be a brother or cousin to William Robinson, b. 1709, Middlesex Co., VA. Unfortunately, I have not acquired the book, This Robinson Line, that I referenced to you. This was provided by another lister and I have not been able to locate it yet. It relates the relations of Christopher Robinson of "Hewick", in the area of Middlesex Co, VA. so if your Robinson line is found here there may be a relation. Beverly W. is not dirrectly in my line, being a sibling to Richard J., my ggg-father. I just assumed this was a sister, but perhaps it is a brother. Would appreciate any info you have on this individual or others listed in your book. Beverly, Richard and siblings and father John Thomas are found in Hampshire Co., VA 1840 census. Households of Richard J. (misprint Robert J.) and Joseph Lewis (w/ father John Thomas) are found in 1850 census for Harrison Co., VA. Not sure if Beverly also migrated with them or remained in Hampshire? Don't know if I sent you the following before from 1850 Harrison Co. ceunsus: 21st district, enumerated 29 July 1850 Ancestry Image 272 Roll M432_950, Page 135 Robert J. Ohio (bordering Guernsey Co., OH) abt. 1854. Joseph L. also reported in one history source to have moved here, but not sure of date. He may have stayed in Harrison Co., VA for a while as his wife passed away in Harrison in 1864 and there one son appears to have stayed in this area: John Lewis, son of John Thomas Robinson, was born in Frederick county, Virginia, 1827. He came to Harrison county in 1849. He was a shoemaker and merchant, sometime associated with E. W. Tinsman as Tinsman & Robinson, and for many years conducted the principal shoe store in Clarksburg. He married Mary E. Waters, born February 25, 1829, in Montgomery county, Maryland. One child by this union, Paul Monroe; the mother died May 12, 1864. Of the parentage of Mary E. (Waters) Robinson it may be said that she was the daughter of Edward B. and Lucretia (Gardner) Waters. The Waters family is numerous and has been of some prominence in Ferderick and Montgomery counties, Maryland, since the formation of the counties. The parents of Mary E. Waters both died when she was a child and she was reared by her uncle, James Waters, of Frederick county, Maryland. 3. Some time over the past few years I had made a note of information I had found: "John S. Clark married Catherine Evans, d/o Samuel Evans 18 May 1818, bondsman Reuben Clark" In checking out WorldConnect at rootsweb I see many references to "John S. Clark m. Catherine Ewing, d/o Samuel Ewing, May 19, 1818." Anyone working with these families or anyone with any wisdom about the similarities who would correspond with me on the coincidence/errors? 1. [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] Richard Robinson line Hampshire Co., VA -> Harrison Co., VA -> Noble Co., OH
    2. Christopher Robinson
    3. Thank you Judy, Bernie, Lee, Jane and all who responded to my request for 1850 census info on my ggg-father Richard J. Robinson. I have acquired a great number of leads with all your help. I am sharing this info in the hopes that I might connect with someone related to this Robinson line or possessing any additional info. It appears there are two Richard Robinsons listed in Hampshire County for the 1840 and 1850 censuses and these are very likely the same two households in both censuses. I hope this helps other listers, and will forward it to anyone interested, but it appears my Richard J. Robinson was mistakenly listed as Robert J. Robinson in the 1850 Harrison Co. census (Thanks again, Judy, for discovering this.): 21st district, enumerated 29 July 1850 Ancestry Image 272 Roll M432_950, Page 135 Robert J. Robinson 36 PA Wagonmaker Nancy 28 PA Theopilus 11 PA John 9 PA Frances 3 PA (The image clearly shows "Robert", not "Richard") This is definitly my Robinson line as the names and ages (plus ten years are) present in the 1860 census in Noble Co., Ohio. There was obviously an error in recording "Robert" also PA appears an error as they were all born in VA. Richard's father, John Thomas, and brother, Joseph L. are also found in Harrison: 22nd District, enumerated 17 August 1850 Ancestry Image 438 Roll M432_950, Page 218 Joseph Robinson 26 VA Shoemaker John T. 61 MD Elizabeth 55 VA Harriet 27 VA Elizabeth 10 VA Mary 8 VA The family appears to have moved from Hampshire Co., VA (WV) before the birth of my gg-father, John W. Robinson in Jan 1843 and sometime after the 1840 census where housholds are found for Richard J. Robinson and his father John T. and siblings: Beverly W., William, Joseph E.?, and John? There are also other Robinson housholds: Alcy, Benjamin, Moses and Thomas listed on this site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvminera/1840.htm Another lister, Bernie, refered me to the following book titled "This Robinson Line" by Viola Robinson Long, which my establish a relationship to the line of Christopher Robinson of "Hewick (fifth genreation) born around 1645 in Cleasby, Yorkshire, England: William Robinson born in Middlesex Co., VA. in March 1709, who married Agatha Beverly and had 9 children. Issue of William and Agatha Beverly Robinson: John b. 1738, eldest son, m. 1st a Miss Page; m. 2nd (mg. bond dated 24 Nov 1757) to Lucy Smith had two sons who went to Tennessee ca 1800. A third son John Thomas m. Elizabeth Emerson and had issue: Beverly W., Arthur, Samuel, William, Richard b. abt 1812, John, and Joseph Lewis. The latter was the father of Mr. P. M. Robinson, Vice Pres. of Union National Bank of Clarksburg, West Virginia. I would like to obtain a copy of this book and also establish contact with anyone related to this line. Thanks again for all your help. 2. Christopher Robinson
    3. Does anyone have access to Harrison County, VA census records or a free onlinre source to look these up? I have the Civl War military record of my gg-father, John W. Robinson, stating that he was born in Harrison County, VA in 1843 (I believe it was January, but I would have to double check the exact date.) His father was Richard J. Robinson, born VA abt 1812, mother was Nancy Hook (Robinson). I have his parents buried in Noble County, Ohio, where the family moved abt. 1854. John W. had a sister, Theopolis, b. abt. 1841, also in VA. Richard's father is reported as John T.(Thomas?) Robinson, b. VA abt. 1780. Brothers to Richard J. (sons of John T.) may have been William, Samuel, and Joseph L. (Lewis?), with sister, Beverly W. Robinson. I would like to find this family in Harrison and would greatly appreciate a look up in the 1850 or 1840 census or a referal to a free online source for this info. Any help is greatly appreciated. 1. [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] "Cumberland" Dilleys (Shenendoah Co, VA)
    2. Christopher Robinson
    3. Thanks to all who refered me to the Dilley web site: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tnoye/300.html Below is another web site that was forwarded to me by a lister. I recommend it to all Dilley listers. http://www.swcp.com/~dhickman/dilley/index.htm It seems to have alot of correspondence specific to my Dilley line, although there are some unknown relations as always. It describes two Dilley lines that migrated from Shenendoah Co, VA to Guernsey/Noble Co, OH area. I am descended from the "Cumberland" Dilley line of Jesse Dilley, b. abt 1770 (NJ?). He is found in Shenandoah, VA abt 1810, and moved to Guernsey Co area of Ohio abt. 1839 with his adult sons James (my ggg-father), Jonathan (Judge), Hiram, and Luke. I have quite a bit of info on James' line, but would like to get in touch with any descendants. One descendant, Neville Dilley contributed to this correspondence, but passed away in 1993 in Louisville, KY. Unfortunately, I have been unable to determine his dirrect relation, although he is listed as the gg-son to James. If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated. Also would like further info/contact with descedants of his brothers and if any info has transpired since these correspondences which appear primarily from the early 1990s, in refenece to parents/siblings of Jesse Dilley. Also, it appears the newspaper article entitled "Tales of Old Cumberland" is specific to my Dilley line and I would like to get a copy. It is referenced sevel times in the correspondece, but the is no date or name for the paper. Is anyone familiar with this article? 1. [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] The Hayton Family
    2. I need some help!! I have unearthed quite a few Haden/Hayton/Haydon/Heaton records for Johns, Thomases, Williams and Georges. I am having a horrible time figuring out who is who. I am looking for information regarding a John Hayton (Haton) who married a Mary Haton. John supposedly died about 1749, and Mary indentured her 4 children, John (who died in 1809 in Washington County, VA) , George, William and Elizabeth (listed as a bastard child). I believe there was a 5th child...Nancy Haton, who married a David Proffit. Nancy was born on the Pamunkey River in 1745. I have a reference to a John Hayton in George Washington's Papers, working with a John Hite for William Ramsay, supplying the troops during the French-Indian War. I also have a reference to a James Hayton (Heaton), and Heaton's Battery --could this be a brother? But, the ironic thing is a will for John Hayton in Fredrick County in 1795..indicating that perhaps he did not die in 1749...can anyone out there shed some light on my dilemma?? Many Thanks- Kathy Hayton Cramer Clinton, Tennessee

    1. [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] ROBINSON, (John T., William, Richard, Beverly, Samuel, Joseph L.), VA(WV), 1800s
    2. Christopher Robinson
    3. I recently got a new lead on my Robinson line and have traced the family back to Harrison Co., VA (now WV) around 1843 with the birth of my gg-father, John W. Robinson. I believe prior to this the family was in the Hampshire Co., VA (now WV) area at least as far back as 1781. I don't know how long this family was in the Harrison Co. area, or if all Robinson were traveling together. My gg-fathers parents were Richard J. Robinson, b. abt. 1812 and Nancy Hook (daughter of Thomas Hook and Elenor McVickers, both from Hampshire Co, VA area), b. abt. 1820. There may have been Hook family migrating with these Robinsons, as Nancy's parents and some of their children are found later in LaFette, MO. Richard J. and Nancy (Hook) Robinson moved to Noble County, Ohio abt. 1854 with their children. Per a history book, I believe Joseph L. Robinson also moved to this area at some point. I would like any info on these Robinsons: John Thomas Robinson (John C, John, William, John, Christopher, John, John) was born 1781. He married Elizabeth Emerson Children of John Robinson and Elizabeth Emerson are 1. William Robinson 2. Richard J. Robinson, b. abt. 1812 m. Nancy Hook, b. abt 1820, children born in VA(WV) include my gg-father, John W. Robinson, b. 1843, and Theopolis (female) several years younger. Family moved to Noble Co., OH abt 1854. Three other daughters were born in Ohio after 1854: Frances, Margaret, and Ellen Robinson. 3. Beverly W Robinson 4. Samuel Robinson 5. Joseph Lewis Robinson b 1827 m. Mary E Waters, b MD d/o E & E WATTERS; wf/o J L d 12 May 1864, buried Harrison Co., VA (WV). I believe Joseph also moved to Noble Co., OH, date unknown. John W. Robinson m. Dec. 24, 1867, Olive B. Dilley they family moved to Indianapolis, IN abt. 1871, then to Louisville, KY abt. 1879. There may have relations in IN. Also, I have nothing yet on Other children of John Robinson: William, Beverly, Samuel and Joseph. Please contact me for additional info on the Richard J.
