    1. Daniel Boone
    2. Hi List , just a quick note before I watch the Superbowl. Daniel Boone wife's Rebecca Bryan grd-parents are on the 1743-1758 Frederick CO VA deed books and so is Rebecca's father Joseph Bryan. Morgan Bryan & Martha Strode are the grd-parents in Frederick CO VA . Morgan Bryan is listed in the 1734-1739 Orange CO BVA court records with Morgan Morgan, Benjamin Borden , John Littler involving the will of Robert Worthington a Quaker . Martha Strode Bryans listed brothers are on the Frederick CO VA deed books and in Berekley CO VA 1787 tax list. Berkeley CO was Frederick CO VA before 1772 and so was Shenandoah CO VA b/4 1772 so look for all kinds of family connections with Frederick CO VA b/4 1772. Morgan Bryan & Richard Beeson from DE and PA are on estates of Mary Bryan Curtis dau. of Morgan 1741 Orange/Frederick CO VA and Morgan Bryan with Richard Beeson has wife Charity GRUBB are on estate Frederick CO VA 1745 of Bryan McNamee. I and a few others believe that George Strode listed as early as 1685 Chester CO PA is related to Martha Strdoe Bryan and may be the uncle. The George Strode is on the 1715 Bradford, PA tax list with John Cope son of Oliver. This George Strode is at the wedding of John Cope & Charity Jefferis 1721. Richard Beeson wife Charity Grubb's mother Frances marr. 2nd Richard Buffington listed on the will of 1697 DE Oliver Cope. Morgan Bryan JR. & wife Mary Forbush - has a 1768 Rowan CO NC tax list with Joseph Bryan & Alylee Linville-parents of Rebecca , William Bryan & Mary BOONE sister of Daniel Boone, William Grant & Elizabeth BOONE sister of Daniel Boone, John Willcockson & Sarah BOONE sister of Daniel Boone, William Linville wife & Eleanor/Ellender Bryan dau. of Morgan & Martha Bryan and William COPE and sons William, John and James Cope -this one I believe is my 4th-grt-father died ca 1825 KY. I have here the Bryan family linking me up with 2 Cope families that should be related and with Cope DNA tests we found 8 of us are related to the Quaker Copes. Gilbert Cope published the Oliver Cope family using mostly son John Cope & Charity Jefferis families. From age 16 to 21 Gilbert Cope compiled this Cope family using mostly Quaker records and writing hundreds of letters to places like Ohio gathering Cope families and related families pub. 1861 Gilbert Cope in 1861 had recorded over 3,000 desc.s of Oliver Cope by 1861 in less than 5 years. 3. Hi Dottie I have a Philip PORTER bn abt 1765 and d 15 Aug 1800 Hampshire Co. VA. He was killed in a hunting accident. He was survived by his wife and eight children. Philip was md. in Frederick Co. VA, 28 Feb. 1786, to Sarah LARGENT. I can only guess at this time as to the identity of his parents. 2. Hi Dottie, I looked for Philip Porter in my records and could not find him . There are a few Porters in the deed books Thomas Porter 1767-1771 1780-1789 Nicholas and William Porter. I found only one Brent and his name is George Brent with these men Chas. Dick and Alexander Wright as witnesses to deed 1 Jan 1767 of Thomas Duncanson of parish Forres, Co. Murray , Great Brittian called SCOTLAND. Thomas has brother Robert Duncanson of Fredericksburg who died Frederick CO VA 1764 and Thomas of Scotland authorizes his other brother James Duncanson to sell this land to Edward Stevens. David

    1. Re: [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] Rightmire NO but others
    2. Hi Alice, I looked in my Frederick CO VA deed books 1743-1789 and the 1782 Frederick CO VA tax lists and could not find the Rightmire name listed. There is a Rightinour family here 1775-1789 this is the best I can find for now. Also for the Spaid and Cale surname I came up empty for both surnames in my records I just listed. The 1782 Frederick CO VA tax list is devided up into 10 Tax Lists and all appear to be enumerated meaning names found by your ancestor are nieghbors and most likely living on land from a father or Father-in-law. Example dist 8 is the 1782 tax list of Thomas Throckmorton with Joshua COPE listed with 10 white taxables . The Joshua Cope is the son of John & Charity Cope marr. 1721 Bradford, PA. The Quaker Lewis Neil & Lydia Hollingsworth family are living by him and Quaker Richard Regerway/Ridgeway is by him and this Ridgeway may have married Charity Beeson 6.1.1761 Hopewell MM dau. of Edward Beeson and Charity was born 18.1.1741 Hopewell , VA MM record. FYI- go copy or buy the VA Quaker records by William Wade Henshaw to see alot of these early Frederick CO VA families. FYI- One of the DE migration patterns is to cecil CO MD 1710s and later where the Quaker Hollingsworths, Cartmill, Grubb , McKay/McCoy , Perkins and others are listed on deed there 1710s-1750s. The same Hollingsworths, Cartmill, Perkins McKay/McCoy, Grubb ( add Babb and Beeson here ) are on the Frederick CO VA deeds starting in 1743-1758. The Hollingsworth, Cartmill, Perkins , Babb, Grubb , Beeson are listed on the New Castle CO DE deeds . FYI the Perkins and Babbs and Babb related Husseys' of New Castle CO DE are from New England per deed records here and per family history on the internet. These families were Puritans who convirted in New England to Quaker and this religion was sweeping all across America before William Penn came in 1682. Right now I believe there is a Quaker connection between Burlington NJ 1670s Quakers and to Providence , Rhode Island Quakers . David

    3. Hello to the List There has been a discussion on many names lately. I was wondering if anyone that has a copy of the various marriage, deed books could help me. My ggg grandfather Philip Porter b. abt 1754 in VA married Nancy Ann Brent born in Frederick Co, VA at a home called "Winterhill". My cousins and I have searched for over 30 years looking for the parents of Philip Porter. I am not sure but I think he may have married in Frederick Co, abt 1786 as their first child James was born in 1787. If anyone can help me find anything that might connect with Philip, I would certainly appreciate it. NOTE: His name has always been found in the records with one L...... instead of 2 L's in Phillip Thanks in advance for your help in any way or for suggestions. 3. I am looking for information on the Rightmire family...they were in Cameron Parish. Loudoun County Va, and Frederick County at least for a short time all in the time period 1760 till at least 1800 ... I do not know if they had a Quaker connection but my Grandmother claimed that they had a connection or at least an aquaintance with Daniel Boone. I soppose that could be just a family story, but she was sure it was true... I do know that some members of the family in the mid 1800's were United Brethren.... Any records of this family that anyone knows about...?

    1. Re: [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] Re: Frederick County Information
    2. Hi List, what I found our about the Quakers would take a year to tell you what I found where they lived and who they are related to. I can tell you this and that is I can just about link most Quakers back to the Cope and Quaker Boone families. They forbid cousin marriages but you know people they all married into each family and the Copes' of Chester CO PA are related to everyone there by 1800. If your family stayed to long in one county then they wind up related to everyone there. My secret is that I always look for cousins in each family marriage and I look for what I call hour glass families and this is like two hour glasses one on top of the other. Example the Copes' and Willcocksons' are listed 1730 Chester CO PA , Copes and Willcocksons' are together 1768 Rowan CO NC tax list of Morgan bryan JR. Rachel Willcockson niece of Daniel Boone marr. William Bryant and they are with my 3rd-grt-grd-father Wiley Cope 1810 Clay CO KY in the area that became Breathitt CO KY in 1839. Rachel Willcockson's first cousin David Willcockson is listed in Farmersville, Collin CO TX 1860 and 1870 with my grt-grd-father John Miles Cope b) 1827 Breathitt CO KY and these Copes' and Willcocksons lived in Copeville which was Farmersville in 1870. My Grd-father Levi Bailey Cope was born in 1866 Farmersville, TX. In other words they come together then spilt up then come together again some where else and then spilt up and then come together again as desc. cousins and marry into each other several times in different states. For Peggy- Miriam Short Thompson White Coppock is a sister of Adam Short and Ann Short who marr. Joel Bailey 2 Nov 1687 . Joel Bailey''s sister Ann Bailey Jeremiah Cloud 10.6.1685 and Jeremiah Cloud is the son of Jeremiah Cloud who died 1717 Brandywine Hundred, New Castle CO DE. Jeremiah Cloud who died in 1717 has son John Cloud of New Castle CO who marr. Ann Beeson dau. of Edward Beeson will 1713 Nottingham, PA. Edward Cloud a son marr. Frances Bird 19 June 1728 Old swede church, New Castle CO DE dau. of Thomas Bird & Sarah Empson dau. of Cornelius Empson 1696/97 DE tax list with Oliver Cope . Joel & Ann Short Bailey have son Isaac Bailey marr. Abigail Wickersham Johnston 8.1.1727 Kennett MM and his widow marr. prob her 3rd and his 2nd wife Mordecai Cloud 9.30.1738 . This Mordecai Cloud is a brother of Jeremiah Cloud who marr. Ann Bailey in 1710 acording to Gilbert Cope and his 1881 bio on the Cloud families . Jeremiah Cloud who's will is 20 Feb 1715 and 21 dec 1717 has another son William Cloud and his will is 12 May 1747 and wife Elizabeth will 3 Feb 1749/50 with Exr: Joseph GRUBB have sons Mordecai, Henry, Daniel, Jeremiah , William , Joseph daus. Mabel Askew, Elizabeth Booth and Margaret. Frederick CO VA deeds show William Cloud of PA the father bought land there from Thomas Chester & Sarah CARTMILL and gave it to sons Jeremiah, Henry and Daniel Cloud and these 3 Clouds are here on this Frederick CO VA index- 1743-1758 deed book- Daniel Cloud pages 105, 108, 109 William Cloud 121,153 - the father Jeremiah Cloud pgs 19,61,105,109,122,132, The 1757 - 1763 book for Frederick CO VA has Ann Cloud pg 6, Jeremiah Cloud pg 6and 131, Henry Cloud pg 103 and 149, Daniel Cloud pg 102 and 103 and William Cloud pg 6 and 102. The 1775-1780 deed bk- has Daniel Cloud pg 74, Henry Cloud pg 13,32,114,162 and William Cloud pg 74. The 1780-1785 deed book has Henry Cloud pg 12 and 139, William Cloud pg 124,126 The 1785-1789 book has- Daniel Cloud pg 86 and 121, James Cloud pg 121, Jane/Janey Cloud pg 61,62,86 and 121, Kesia Cloud pg 121, Mordecai Cloud pg 86 , William Cloud pg 61,62,86 and 121. Joel & Ann Short Bailey's son Daniel Bailey marr. Oliver Harry 16.1.1720/21 Goshen PA MM she dau. of Hugh Harry & Elizabeth Brinton. Hugh Harry/Harris and Daniel Harry are on the ship the " Vine " 1684 and they are from Mongomeryshire, Wales listed in Gilbert COPE's book page 22. Daniel Bailey is show in Quaker records as going to Fairfax CO VA 1755 and then to New Garden, NC Rowan 1762 which is Guildford, CO 1771 , Daniel goes back to York, PA in 1765. Joel & Ann Short Bailey's dau. Mary b) 9.10.1688 marr. Alexander Stewart who died 1714 Kennett and she is Mary Stewart 1715 Kennett tax list by Gilbert Cope. Mary married 2nd George Harlan 12.1715/16 son of Michael Harlan & Dinah Gregg of Duck Creek Hundred, New Castle CO DE. Mary Bialey Stewart Harlan has 3 Stewart children and one is Robert Stewart who marr. Martha Richardson and their son Jehu Stewart marr. a Stanley listed in the New Garden, NC MMs . Jehu Stewart is on the 1768 Rowan CO NC tax list of William Milliken where Peter Buffington and son Moses Buffington are listed. Moses Buffington was a COL. in the Loyalist Army and was killed in that Rev War . Peter Buffington marr. Hannah Waite 30 July 1750 Old Swede church and he is the son of Richard Buffington JR and Phebe Grubb dau. of John will 1707 New Castle CO DE. The widow Phebe Grubb marr. 2nd Simon Hadley in Bradford, PA about 4 years before he died. Simon Hadley's grd-son Simon Hadley is on the Surry CO NC records as Quaker 1775 and later. Richard Buffington JR' brother is Thomas Buffington who marr. Ruth COPE dau. of Oliver Cope of DE. Their son William Buffington marr. Magdalena Feree and they are on the 1782 and 1784 Hampshire CO VA tax list with other former Quakers. George Harlan who marr. Mary Bailey Stewart is a first cousin of Ezekiel Harlan listed with Jacob Stover VA land grants. Ezekeil Harlan marr. first Mary Bezer and 2nd Ruth Buffington sister of Thomas and Richard. Ezkiel Harlan & Ruth Buffington are grd-parents of Ellis Harlan of 1790 Pendelton CO SC who marr. Catherine Walker dau. of Cherokee chief King Fisher and these Harlans are in the Cherokee Indian records . Ezekiel Harlan was an Indian interpitor and went to Phila with several Indian Chiefs according to Gilbert Cope bk. Ezekeil's wife Ruth Buffington Harlan is at the wedding of John Cope & Charity Jefferies 30 Nov 1721 Bradford, PA. I can do this for hours but get to stop for now. David

Daniel McPherson with New Castle CO DE Hollingsworth is on the 1715 Kennett , PA tax list by Gilbert Cope in 1881 and is the Quaker ancestor of the Frederick CO VA Quaker McPhersons. 2. Hi Lee, and List , first I was in a hurry when I sent out my last letter on White and got side tracted whith White and Smith and don't know why I listed Elizabeth Smith with the White family. As for Hugh Harrel I have him listed in my deed books for Frederick CO VA and I have 7 of them for 1743-1789 and will abtracts for Frederick CO VA 1745 -1780s that I copied from my local library. We have months to work on all of these families so I will see what I can chart on Herell/Harold since I find them in Rowan CO NC 1760s and if I remmember right for Randolph CO NC 1790. I also have /Herrell / Hearld in Russell CO VA 1790 where the Copes' lived and in Breathitt CO KY where my Copes' lived. David

    2. This is for Pat asking about the frederick CO VA White family and we ned to all share this on this mailing list. From my New Castle CO DE Quaker record book- John White of Nottingham , Chester CO PA son of William White wheelwright dec.d of New Castle CO DE- note on the Cope gen forum I printed the 39 men ( William White is one of them ) listed on the 1696/97 Brandywine Hundred , New Castle CO DE tax of Cornelius Empson many of the Frederick CO VA immigrant families post # 1720 are on this tax list with Oliver Cope . Miriam White widow married next 3rd- Aaron Coppock of Nottingham, PA. Will book for Chester CO PA 1713-1748 Aaron Coppock 10.3.1726 Nottingham , PA has will with Miriam as wife and her sons listed are Ralph Thompson, John and William WHITE. 2. Hi Hal, there are alot of Quakers found in Augusta CO VA and you will find families there from New Castle CO DE . The Morgan Bryan family related to Daniel Boone are on both Augusta CO VA deeds.court and they are in the 1743-1758 Frederick CO VA deeds with Quakers. The Linvilles of Augusta CO VA who marr. Bryans are found 1715 Chester and Chichester twp. Chester CO PA tax lists by Gilbert Cope in his History of Chester CO PA book pub. 1881. The Frederick CO VA families from New Castle CO DE 1730s and later that were Quakers are the Hollingsworths, Perkins , Babb- who are Cope related , Cartmills, Grubbs, Clouds. The 1722 East & West Nottingham , PA tax list Quakers in Frederick CO VA are Richard Harrold's family , Morris Reese, Alexander Ross VA land partner of Morgan Bryan , Samuel and son John Littler, John Ruddell, Richard Beeson- also from New Castle, Hugh Sidwell family , Arthur Barrett family , William Hogg. Robert McCoy's family married in to the 1722 Nottingham Andrew JOB family and both os these families are on the 1740s-1750s Augusta CO VA records. Robert McCoy has a 1746 Augusta CO VA will with the New Castle CO DE son-in-laws George Robinson and George Hollingsworth and Nottingham JOBs who marr. into his family. Gilbert Cope in his history of Chester CO PA has the Andrew JOB family bio'd and 2 of Robert McCoys' children are listed married into the JOB family. Iam a desc. of the 1820s KY McCoy family and will continue to look for my connection with these Quaker McCoys. Note: Andrew Job's widow Elizabeth Vernon JOB is on the 1722 East Nottingham, PA tax list with Arthur Barrett his will 1745 Frederick CO VA , Morris Rees bought land in Frederick CO VA from Quaker Thomas Mills & wife Elizabeth Harrold dau. of Richard Harrold & Mary Beals 1722 West Nottingham, PA tax list. Morgan Bryan & Alexander Ross Quakers from PA obtained a very large tract of land in VA , Jost Hite and Quaker Robert McCoy had a large tract of land in VA, Benjamin Borden a Quaker from Burlington CO NJ sold tracts of land in VA and Jacob Stover reported married to Sarah Boone sister of Squire Boone was very large land partner of Johan Ochs and Quaker Ezekiel HARLAN. Ezekiel Harlan's 2nd wife Ruth Buffington dau. of Richard is at the 21 Nov 1721 Bradford, PA wedding of John Cope & Charity Jefferis. John Cope's neighbor 1715 Bradford , PA is Quaker William VESTAL who is in Orange , Frederick CO VA 1730s and later and his will is 1745 Frederick CO VA. As you can see most of the early big mid to west VA land holders were Quakers . The Frederick CO VA Hites' married into the DE Cartmills and are found the the Quaker McCoys . I can't say that I have info on your listed families but if found with Quakers the records get fantastic for firm and reliable records. David

    3. David, do you believe the Quakers of that era had a different migration route than the others that ultimately came down into Eastern VA and Western WV of that era? I have 3 separate non-Quaker lines that came into that area 1720-50 era: WILSON & CHRISTIANs into Augusta Co; MCCAULEY, MARQUIS & COLVILLE into Opequon Cr area adjoining S Winchester, Frederick Co; and the ZEH/SEE clan into Hardy Co, WV. 1. Re: [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] Re: Frederick County Information
    2. Hi List, I new to the list but not to Genealogy and my main research are the Quakers who moved into Frederick CO VA 1730s and later. I have found so far that many of the families listed there 1730s and later came from 3 areas' and they were PA,NJ and DE. The counties with Quakers in VA came from Burlington CO. NJ, Chester CO PA and New Castle CO DE . The Cope family lived in New Castle CO DE 1690s and in Chester CO PA 1712 and later. One branch of these Copes' were Quakers' in DE and PA . The other missing Cope that Iam working on is William Cope who moved from Chichester, Chester CO PA 1729 after selling his land in New Castle CO DE at that time. Gilbert Cope ( 1840-1928 ) who is in the Genealogy Hall of Fame in Arlington, VA wrote a book on the History of Chester CO. PA & Bio-Sketches pub. 1881. I found many of the Frederick CO VA Quaker families in his book and many of them are on his 1715 twp, Chester CO PA tax list and listed inQuaker, Deed books and wills for New Castle CO DE. I have sent several 1000 emails to the Cope-L@rootsweb.com mailing list since 1998. I found many families in Frederick CO VA have links to the Quaker Daniel BOONE and related families. I found links for 4 early KY Forts related the to the Quakers and they are FT. Boonesborough, KY, FT. Strode, FT. Ruddell and Bryan's Station, KY 1780s. The Copes' were Quakers and the Boones' were Quakers and sure enough I found links for these 2 KY Cope and Boones. David C. Cope of CA

A gggg-uncle of mine, Peter Epler, shows up in the 1820 & 1830 Census for Frederick County. He, at age 70, and his wife disappears after that. Does Frederick County have online data bases for obits, newspapers, Wills, etc.? A list of URLs or links for Frederick County would really be appreciated. Thanks much! Bob
