    2. Samuel D. McFadden
    3. John Henry Westcamp born abt 1800 in Germany was in Valley by abt 1840. Married Elizabeth Daughorty or Daugharty or Doughorty or Dougharty. The o and a are similar in the script. She was probably born in Shenandoah Co. Oldest dtr, Mary Ann age 18yr, 10mo and 17da married John Westcamp of Kilcar Parish,Co Donegal, IRL on 25 Nov 1861. John Westcamp was in the Confedrate Army with McClanahan's Batery at Dumfries on the Potomac and he had to have someone write a letter for him giving permission for his dtr. to marry. Henry or John Henry died at Staunton during the war and was buried in a group of unmarked Confederate graves at Thornrose Cemetery. The mother was lost to family but the children including Mary Ann mostly ended up in Baltimore and she and her husband and children moved to Winchester. Other Westcamps still at Baltimore by 1900 or so. Interested in information re Westcamp or Dougharty families and ideas as to when John Henry came to VA and what his port of immigration may have been. Thanks Sam McFadden

What rivers, what moountain ranges, etc. Mr. O'Dell's book ("Pioneers of Old Frederick Co., Virginia, 1995) is a wonderful resource for anyone researching this area. And it does indeed have maps in each chapter showing outlines of many of the original grants discussed in the chapter. But as with any such effort it is certainly not complete. It does however give some clues to the good detective. The John Stackhouse that I am researching had at least two tracts surveyed in Old Frederick, the first in 1753. Neither John nor his land is mentioned in the O'Dell book. But I obtained a copy of the original survey from the Library of Virginia (all of the surviving Northern Neck Warrants and Surveys are now FINALLY on microfilm; all of the Geo. Washington surveys have long since been stolen including one that I need. G.W.'s diaries provide some additonal clues here, but that's another exercise altogether) and the names of two adjoining landowners are mentioned in the survey. Luckily one of those neighboring tracts is described (but not mapped) in O'Dell, so I can now place the 1753 Stackhouse tract within a mile or two. I was hoping that perhaps someone in one of the subject county historical or geneaolgical societies had published a more comprehensive map of tracts and grants, so if anybody stumbles across one, please let us all know. 3. You can find a transcription of the Reformed Church Records of the Peaked Mountain Church, Rockingham County, Virginia at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/rockingham/churches/peakmtn.txt I transcribed, as part of my family research, these records from the "William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Magazine" originally published, in three parts, in Vol. XIII, No. 6, April 1905, Vol. XIV, No. 1, July 1906, and Vol. XIV, No. 2, October 1906. The original transcription of the record was edited by Prof. William J. Hinke and Charles E. Kemper. The transcription of the article includes the editors Forward, the 1769 Agreement between the Reformed and Luthern churches, and the transcribed record. The record contains 316 baptisms, some marriage and burial data, and some communion lists. The record contains information from 1753 to 1802. Some of the surnames listed include: ERMENTRAUT (Armentrout), GEIGER, HERRMANN, KISSLING, KOHLER, KROPF (Cropp), MUELLER, NICOLAUS (Nicholas), PREISS (Price), RISCH (Rush), ZELLERS (Sellers) and many others. 1. WELCOME to the OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA Discussion List
    2. Yvonne James-Henderson
    3. *****WELCOME to the OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA Discussion List****** My name is Yvonne James-Henderson, I'm the new "owner" of this list. That means I'm responsible for keeping it running as smoothly as possible and setting some rules for its operation. If you are reading this now...you are subscribed! You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in genealogy related to the OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA. We all owe a big "Thank You" to RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ for adopting our Discussion List and to Larry Stephens, for everything he has done for on-line genealogy. ******************YOUR RESPONSIBLITIES ****************** That's right, you have some responsibilities, too. A mail list isn't like a movie, where you just buy a ticket, get entertained (sometimes) then walk away. This is a cooperative effort. 1. Keep this message. PRINT AND SAVE IT! Trust me, I learned the hard way! I recommend printing it and putting the paper where you can find it. Files on a hard disk get lost (as if paper doesn't, but...) 2. Read this message. Yes, it's a little long, but you don't have to memorize it (that's why you're saving it). It's hard to make it short and tell you what you need to know. 3. Don't be afraid of all this. Using a computer is a little harder than just knowing where the power switch is, but anyone can do this with a little effort and by following instructions. 4. Follow instructions - to the letter. If you leave something out of a command or put something extra in, it probably won't work. 5. If you decide to leave the list, make sure your name is removed (more on this below). The server that sends you this list handles thousands of messages a day. If your address becomes "bad" (for instance, you quit AOL but we think you're still there) then we start getting bounced messages. We get thousands a day now. Please don't make it worse. 6. Remember these addresses: a. IF YOU NEED HELP, CONTACT ME. My address is: daisy@usroots.com 7. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 8. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA-L-request@rootsweb.com. 9. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA-L-request@rootsweb.com to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to: OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA-D-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving digests. 10. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 11. POSTING: If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to: OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA-L@rootsweb.com It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both. For your verification, a transcript of the original subscription request is included below. ************************************************** Visit the FREDERICK County VaGenWeb Site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vafreder/frederic.htm Yvonne ****** Yvonne James-Henderson, Burke, VA My Home page: Daisy's Roots: http://www.rootsweb.com/~daisy/1daisy.htm alternate addresses: daisy@usroots.com or hen1@idt.net Listowner for these Family Discussion Lists: BALLEAU BRISBIN COOKSEY HITT HORN KENTON LAWSON LUCKY MORROW SWEET ZIMMERMAN Listowner for: The PRINCE WILLIAM, OLD FREDERICK and ROCKBRIDGE County,VA Discussion Lists

    2. Bonnie Just read your note and the name Mcllwee rings a bell with me. When I was in school in Lexington, Va., we used to go to church out in Rockbridge Co. and the name of the church was Mcllwee Chapel. I know this isn't much to go on, but if you have some contacts in Rockbridge County Va. , I would contact them or maybe you could post a query on the Va-Roots listserver . That always draws some sort of response. But anyway, there's a possibility that the Mcllwees that you're looking for moved down the valley from Frederick County to Rockbridge. Tracy Hunter
