The reference to Washington Co. TN led me to look at a reference: Tennesseans before 1800: Washington Co. by Marjorie Hood Fischer, Frontier Press Galveston, 1996. This book is an index to several rolls of microfilm which contain all the records for "Washington County" before 1800. Washington County NC was the name given to eastern TN before NC ceded this area to the Federal Government. TN became a state in 1796. Subsequent county formation greatly reduced the size of what is now Washington Co. There are quite a number of references in this book to John Hunter and other Hunters, but as the book is solely an index, it is hard to say what kind of information will be available. Sometimes the references merely indicate that so-and-so served on a jury or grand jury. I did, however, have the good fortune to find a refence that fixed the death date of my 5th GGF, a nice piece of info. Recommend that you pursue the references in this book. Searching for the roots of John DAVIDSON who married Sarah\\ abt 1800 probably 1n Frederick Co.( born abt 1779 in VA) and raised several sons until moving family to Madison Co., OH abt 1813-1818. Any info is appreciated. Thanks, Al
Catherine Little, Daughter of Adam Little, my 4G grandfather, married Isacc Oldacre in Frederick County on 18 Jan, 1818. Any information on this family greatly appreciated. Michael Little
My 3G GRandfather, David Litttle, son of Adam Little married Nancy Riggle 4 Sept. 1814. It must have been his second marraige, as I have reference that he moved from Frederick County, Va. to Greene County, Ohio in 1820 with his wife and 8 children....1814-1820 is not much time to produce 8 children...unless you are prone to twins. Thnk you, Michael Little
I am interested in information regarding the Ritenours of Frederick County, Virginia and Greene County, Ohio. Two of the sons of my 4G grandfather, Adam Little, married Ritenours: Jacob Little married Polly Ritenour 31 Dec, 1808 and Martin Little married Sarah Ritenour 6 Sept, 1819. The bondsman in both of these marraiges was Michael Ritenour. He may be the father of Polly & Sarah. Jacob moved to Greene County, Ohio in 1817 and Martin followed a few years later. Thank you, Michael Little
My ALLEN's came from Frederick Co., Va to Hampshire County in about 1765. PYLES and STARKEY came about 1800 to Hampshire County. DANIELS came first to Berkely Co, before going to Hampshire County that later become Mineral Co. Bill Pyles, Titusville, FL
I'm working on the following surnames in West Virginia and would like to hear from other researcher of these names. I'm willing to share what I have. These are not all from the same branch so do not all tie together. ISER and ELLIFRITZ (and the different spellings) Mineral and Hampshire Counties. MC GLAUGHLIN (McLaughlin) Listed as VA (WV) but I have a small trail on them in Pendleton and Randoph Counties which looks to lead to Pocahontas County. They wemt to lower Ohio (Athens-Vinton Counties). Associated families are: COTTRILL, Harrison Co., WV; DEVAULT, Va (WV) to Harrison, Vinton, and Athens Counties in Ohio. This name sometimes ends up being spelled DEVOLT. I would like to hear from Devault researchers no matter what area they are in. COFFENBERRY (Kaufenbaeger/other spellings) from Berkley County West Virginia. Hoping to hear from other researcher so we can share and help each other. We all hold a key to someone elses research. Shirley Sgorman@shianet.org
John Hunter was born in Lancaster county, PA in 1740. He lived in VA. for a while probably in the Rockingham county area and then moved to Washington County, TN where he spent the rest of his life. He is buried in Cherokee Creek Cementery. He married Barbara Bowman and together they had ten children most of which were born in Va. They are as follows: John Hunter Jr. born 27 Nov. 1762 m. Eliz. Ozman in May 1781 Jacob Hunter born 16 Mar 1766 m. Ann Clark in 1789 Henry Hunter born 1768 died Aug 1826 m. Barb. Bolinger Abraham Hunter born 1771 in VA. m. Nancy Brooks Joseph Hunter born 22 Feb 1779 Va. m. _____ Kimbrough Barbara Hunter born 1784 Va. m. Henry Ruble Isaac Hunter born 1786 Va. m. Elizabeth Kizer Oct 1812 Does anyone have information about any of these children? I would especially like to know about Isaac. Was Eliz. Kizer his first wife? I think he is my ggggf, but my gggf claims his mother was Sarah Sites. Any help would be deeply appreciated since this stone wall has been in my way for over a year. Tracy Hunter
It has been suggested to me by one of the fine and compassionate members of this group that I might learn just a bit more about my "elusive William Noland" that died in Berkeley Co. in 1804 if I could find if he was into the general area of Old Frederick Co. when he was married to Joana_________ around 1750-55. A suggestion was made that if a considerate gentleman by the name of Dr. Wilmer Kerns or some other person that had possession of a James Wood Fee Book, that marriage information might be preserved. I seem to share the same frustrating problem that has troubled "ancestor searchers" for years. I can't get information to learn about this one man (William Noland/Nowland/Nolan) to where I can unlock who his father and mother were. Any help about that marriage date of Wm. and Joana (ca. 1750-55) would do deeply appreciated. Thank you Charles Noland e:mail reader@anet-dfw.com

William Noland married a Joana____________ in what is now Berkeley Co. West Va. around 1755. He died in Berkeley Co. in 1804. We think his birth would have been ca. 1725. If he had been born in the same area in which he died...what would the county have been called during the 1720''s and would there have been any records still in existance during this early period. Would deeply appreciate any educated guesses and suggestions of how to find out information about this man. If I can jump one more generation back, I can probably tie him into one of several Noland/Nowland/Nolan groups that were in the Maryland, Va. area at the time. Thank you in advance. My ancestor Richard Mendenhall was born near present-day Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., VA, in 1737. That was the year before formation of Old Frederick Co., VA. Frederick Co. was formed from Orange Co., VA, in 1738, so I show Orange Co., VA, for his birth. I do not know if there are extant records for that area in the earliest times. My birth information came from Quaker records which were kept later in North Carolina where the family moved about 1750/51. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Wally Garchow, Sacramento, CA wally@calweb.com listowner: CCHelper-L@rootsweb.com http://www.rootsweb.com/~cchelper listowner: PITSENBARGER-L@rootsweb.com http://www.calweb.com/~wally/darke/w-pits1.htm Web pages indexed at: http://www.calweb.com/~wally/index.html Geographic Interests: Darke, OH; Huntingdon, PA; Baltimore, MD Surname Interests: COUPLAND, FRY, GARCHOW, GOSHORN, PEARSON, PITSENBARGER, MENDENHALL, SLADE, YORK

I suggest that you get a Virginia Map from AAA and try to find it on the map. It's probably a town located next to the James River. I hope this helps.

Hello Karen, I have just learned more about my family surnames. I have not seen very much in my library on the families that I am looking for in Hampshire CO. VA. I would appreciate any help that you can give me on the Hampshire Co families: FAHS, MORELAN, EVANS, FIDLER, HIGH, and HAYMAKER. It seems that most of one side of my family migrated from this county. I have not seen your family, but I will keep a look out for them. Thank you. Delia Hord My address is: Delia Hord 3919 Tall Pine Drive Marietta, Ga 30062-6132

Looking for information on Bill, the slave and son of Adam ALBERT. Bill's mother was named Pegg and also a slave owned by Adam. When Adam Albert died in July 1807, ownership was transferred to his second wife Flora (HUFFMAN) Albert. The family lands were in the Winchester VA area, on the north side of Red Bud Creek. An extract from the will transferring Pegg to Flora: "Secondly I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Flora my negro woman Pegg during her natural life." Following is an extract from the valuation of the will done by the executors: 1 Negro woman Peggy and child valued at 200 1 Mulatto boy named Sampson 150 Dols, and 1 Ditto named Bill 75 Dols 225 It is not known if Sampson, or the unnamed child with Pegg (Peggy) were also Adam's children as well. Any and all hints or assistance would be appreciated. Ed Albert
