The 1820 census for Monongalia County VA. lists an Isaac Hunter. Does anyone know if this is the same Isaac Hunter that was born in Rockingham County in 1786 and married Eliz. Kiser there in 1812. Is there any other record from that county that I could check on to confirm my suspicions. Tracy Hunter

ken, the E-Mail address is msmoke@msn.com I forgot a letter in the first attempt. Sorry!
Ken, while browsing on the net,I found msoke@msn.com also researching Rankin/McCormick. He was asking basically what you were asking. This was a '96 post to a Va query board...His E-Mail address may have changed. I did E-Mail him to check.
Ken, I'm not a McCormick descendant, but I was helping a friend to compile a genealogy. Notes from a James Heffron ( this was when I was on Prodigy in '92) reads: "Dr. John had a sister Jennett who married David Rankin in County Antrim, near the town of Ballintoy, Rapahoe Parish ca 1718-19...James indicates his notes comes from a descendant of Jennet, but she (?) will not say where she got the information. Jennett and David came to then Orange Co., VA, with Dr. John and settled nearby. Dr. John was to admn on David's estate. Both died same year and James was the adm. on both estates. .....Do you know James Heffron? He was sending the note to Sue Ridenour, Cindy, myself, Jo, Evelyn. I have other notes on the Rankin/McCormick lines. Do you have anything on the Rankin line?

Joyce: Sure, tell me your surnames; we might get lucky. Lyle Corder
Hi Lyle, We might be cousins, but so far I have not found that I am a HULL desc. Thot I was, but have since learned that HULL is not a direct line for me, altho my ancestor was named Phineas Hull FOY. Turns out he was named for his mother's sister's deceased husband! That man died a few yrs bef my Phineas was born. I surmised HULL was his mother's or grandmother's maiden name. I was wrong! So far, no ancestors have been found for that Phineas. I have recently, 2 yrs ago, found loads and loads of ancestors for my Phineas, tho. I have lots of New England anc, but they were very class conscious in those days, and altho I have some very fine anc, the movers and shakers did not intermarry with my family! If we are cousins, it is on a dif New England line, I think. I will prob not join HFA again this yr. Had planned to drop this yr, but then they started giving some new info on a New Jersey family, likely the above Phineas' line, as all the rest of the family had come from NJ around 1800 or a little bef. I can send you an alphabetical list of the surnames I am researching. I enclose it with each letter I send to a new correspondent. Has all my New England names. Let me know. Greetings, Does anyone have birth information on David RANKIN and Jenette MCCORMICK who were married in Ireland and emigrated to Frederick County c1740? Thanks. Ken McCormick Cioraod@aol.com
Frances, Several persons have asked for information about my book titled, "Historical Records of Old Frederick and Hampshire Counties, Virginia, (Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, Maryland), 1992, 430 pages, paperback, map, index, $34 plus $4 shipping= $38. Give the title and name of author plus the book identification # K165. The ordering address is: Heritage Books, Inc. 1540-E Pointer Ridge Place Bowie, MD 20716 The book contains information on about 1,400 different surnames and more than 7,000 persons, primarily the 18th and 19th centuries. Information was compiled from many sources: archives and selected court records, Bible records, day books, journals, military records, records of Primitive Baptist Churches (Hampshire County), many graveyard inscriptions, business licenses (ordinaries, apprentice bonds, clergy) in Frederick County, lots of genealogical records, and extensive information on the Largent and Kidwell families of Hampshire County. There is a section on mills (saw, grist and manufacturing), identifying all mill-owners in OLD FREDERICK COUNTY, and I mean the geographic territory of all 12 of the present-day counties. Date of the mill survey was in 1813, when the State conducted a survey to raise money for the War of 1812. You might be surprised to learn that your ancestor was a miller, as there were hundreds of them at that time. RE: NEWMAN Is there any chance that George Newman may have lived in Fairfax county for a while? I have a Wm Bishop in Fairfax from about 1780s to early 1800s when he moved to Frederick co., then to ? In my notes there is a record of a court case of George Newman vs. Wm Bishop in Fairfax co. Wm's father is believed to be John Bishop, a French & Indian war veteran, who lived in Frederick co. for many years. Just wondering ..... Tom Bishop
