Hi Carol - Can't help with you inquiry, but I too have a smattering of folks from the Wolfe family that I can't yet connect. Hannah WOLFE m. Simeon HAINES, b. 1752, Anne WOLFE (probably Hannah's niece) m. Benjamin HAINES, b. 1781, George WOLFE m. Sarah EMERSON 1808 OH, and Rebecca WOLFE m. James PARKER, b. 1759 MD. All are associated with Frederick and Hampshire Co's. Ring any bells? Bill
Hello, I'm looking for the parents of Elizabeth WOLF/E born abt 1782. The 1860 census says born in MD, the county history says PA, and a family researcher in the 1950's said Wales, but gave no proof. She married William JONES in 1800, supposedly in Fleming Co, KY, but I do not find this marriage there. William JONES' mother Sarole TOMKINS was from Bucks Co, PA. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance, Carol Wilson cjwilson@win.bright.net

I don't know enough about the traditions of 1850 to know whether one involved marrying on the bridge, but I have children who live in Jefferson Co. and visit there frequesntly. Charles Town is just a few miles so a couple would not have traveled far to marry at Harper's Ferry. The bridge at Harper's Ferry is one of the most beautiful locations you might want to visit, with the Potomac and the Shenandoah Rivers meeting at Harpers Ferry. Both rivers are breathtaking and I can see why a couple would select this particular spot to marry. //Lotus Cirilo Executive Director for the TISD Foundation //Postal: PO Box 2035 Tyler, Texas 75710-2035 //Phone: 903-531-3543 Fax: 903-531-3604 //HTTP: www.butterfly.net/lotus //E-mail: lotus@butterfly.net

Dear Carolgene, I have a dozen Thomas Worthingtons! The only one who might be a possibility is Tom Worthington, a son of William B. Worthington who was born in Bledsoe County, TN in 1844. I don't have any other info on this particular Tom, since he's a fairly way-out collateral ancestor. If I stumble across your guy somewhere in my hard copy files, I'll let you know. I'm still organizing my late mother-in-law's files on Worthingtons. Most are from East Tennessee. Cordially, Ann Hewitt Worthington

Hello - Does anyone know who submitted this information? I accidentally sent it back to the group instead of "Carol" and have now deleted the original message. I would like to know where to find the original will. The source says "Early Records Hampshire Co, VA", but in parentheses after MARTIN, Edward it shows (State of Ohio). Perhaps someone else has this book and can tell me? I have an idea as to the meaning of 'Red' John Richardson and 'Black' John Richardson. I'm referring to a book 'Albion's Seed', by David H. Fischer, 1989. In a chapter on 'Borderlands to the Backcountry', sub-chapter Backcountry Family Ways, Border Ideas of Clan and Kin, page 664, in talking about the Alexander clan of the N.C. backcountry, he quotes a source "So numerous were the tribe of the Alexanders that they had to be designated by their office, their trade of their middle name." "The most eminent Alexander was called 'Governor Nat' to distinguish him from 'Red Head Nat' and 'Fuller Nat'. With Winchester being in the 'backcountry' in the 1740s, and likely several Richardsons living in that area, my thought is that there was a John Richardson with 'red' hair, and a John Richardson with 'black' hair. By the way, if you have VA ancestors or ancestors from the Delaware valley area, I strongly recommend reading 'Albion's Seed'. Tom Bishop

Edward ROGERS is listed in Col. James Wood's Fee Book of 1744. His wife was Hannah BORDEN, daughter of Benjamin and Zerviah (WINTER)BORDEN. (Benjamin BORDEN, born 6 Apr 1675 Monmouth Co., NJ; died 1743, near Winchester, VA.) Edward and Hannah (BORDEN) ROGERS (my gggg-grandparents) had a daughter, Hannah Borden ROGERS, who married (1) Elisha DUNGAN, and settled in Washington Co., VA. This is my line. I have very little information on Edward ROGERS or his children. Is anyone researching this Edward ROGERS family? Please help me, if you can. Thank you, Barbara Howe
There were lots of Chesshire's in Hampshire County. Still lots of them today. Wilmer Kerns has several listed in his Historical Records of Old Frederick and Hampshire Counties. Also Early Records of Hampshire Co by Sage and Jones. You need to get the 1900 or 1910 census and work backwards to these in the mid 1850's. -----Original Message----- From: ReGrantc73@aol.com [SMTP:ReGrantc73@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 05, 1997 1:52 AM To: Old-Frederick-Co-Va-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Chesshire [Cheshire] Family Looking for information on this family and or individuals of this family Joseph Chesshire b. 1825 Hampshire Co., VA, d. 1900 Rural, Shelby, Illinois; m[1850, Va] Ruth Lupton b. 1831 Hampshire Co. I'm searching for any rosters of companies of the VA Militia who served in the War of 1812. In particular, I'm looking for a list of men who served under Capt. John Lyle, in the regiment of Col. Hi, I'm searching for information about a family named Beeson, or anyone doing research on the Beeson family. My ancestor, Thomas TURNER, was orphaned at age two (about 1796) and a Quaker family by the name of Beeson raised him. This was probably in the Harper's Ferry area of VA. If anyone has any leads, I would deeply appreciate them Thanks! Anita

Well, after the usual trials and tribulations of updating The Albert Family Tree, I am pleased to announce an update. We are now up to 20,428 people thanks to the contributions of several people including Millie Albert Priessle, the editor of the original Albert Family Newsletter, and some new information on the Reith part of the family. I have also changed the navigation of the surname list, because of the number names, the names are segregated alphabetically. And, the genealogy pages of The Albert Family Tree have changed once again. They are now formatted to resemble family group sheets, so that you can see the whole of each family at a glance. The highlighted names on the pages will allow you to move to that individuals page. The overall effect of these page changes is to improve the performance of web page displays and research. Please let me know what you think ... For those of you who do not visit the Albert Family Tree web site often, it is at http://www.humboldt1.com/~cealbert/index.html (as always). Note: The contributor's page is working, but needs updating which I will be doing later this week. Also, there are some additional changes to be made in the next few weeks, that I am sure you all will enjoy. Keep an eye out ...
