Have a family line sometimes spelled SOUTHWOOD, SOUTHWARD & SOUTHARD. Prior to leaving Virginia for Ohio, members of this family lived in Frederick Co., VA but have also been found in Fauquier County & Loudoun County. They're said to have resided before Viriginia in Frederick Co., MD but I have no proof of this. Anyone who'd like to compare notes, please contact me. Mary Kelley Marblemount, WA <mkelley@cio.net>
In the register for Frederick parish, there is a note in 1768 and 1769 that William Green was paid for taking care of Samuel Bishop (who d. 1769). I'm wondering if anyone knows who this Wm Green was and whereabouts in Frederick he lived? Thanks, Tom Bishop

Hello, I saw your request for information on Lewis Wolf(e). There is a possibility that he could be a brother of my great3grandfather Henry Woolf born 1745 and who lived in Frederick Co. and apparently did have a brother named Lewis. Henry later moved to SC, KY, and finally to Marengo Co., AL where he died in 1823. I would be glad to exchange information with you. Ray Woolf
Dear Ester: If you get any email from a Heatherly would you let me know? I'm working on that name for a friend. Thanks. Lyle Corder

Someone was working on the surname HEATHERLY, I don't remember which mailing list. Since this isn't my family, I deleted it. That night in our area newspaper they had article on a grave site found in Richmond, Ky. They gave two names on some of the tombstones. They are J.B. HEATHERLY d 1864 wife Margaret and 9 year old daughter WILMOTH d. 1833. If the person wants the infromation from the paper they can E-mail at emamcd@erols.com. Thanks, Esther
Emily, Sorry, this is info I just got, and all I have on the Jenkins folks is Elizabeth as Richard Norred's wife, and that she was the daughter of Samuel H. Jenkins. No dates or other Jenkins. Elizabeth and her husband, however, did have their third child, Farris Norred, in Knox Co. Ohio. And Richard, at least, also resided in Loudon Co., VA at some point, not sure before or while he was married. Let's do keep in touch, in case we find a connection. Thanks for responding! Deni
Deni, I have a Jacob JENKINS who m. Elizabeth ROGERS ca 1749 in Frederick Co, VA. Do you happen to know the parents of your Samuel or other siblings? Other children of Samuel? I do have some desc. records of Jacob's family, but not all. At the moment, I don't see a Samuel, but it may be important that we keep in touch. I know some of his children ended up in Hampshire Co, WV and OH, but no doubt some were left in VA. Best wishes, Emily eaulicin@pps.k12.or.us >I'm new here, and this is my first post. I am researching the TALIAFERRO/TOLIVER family. I know that Robert TALIAFERRO was probably the first to come to Virginia. The family moved and spread out over Virginia and North Carolina. I am trying to connect Charles Taliaferro and his descendents. I also know there were lots of Charles in the Taliaferro family. This certain one would have been born probably around the early to middle 1700's. He had a son named Charles also, which he had a son named William. If any one can help me with this family please let me know. Charlotte
Siggy, A VIP Froggy Written by: JRose10700@aol.com OK, so what does a frog have to do with genealogy searches? If he is named Siggy, quite a bit. Remember the frog that went a-wooing in the old folksong? Well, Siggy is a frog that goes a-rooting for sites that will help family tree climbers in their never-ending search for their ancestors. And you might say that Siggy goes a -wooing too, to help you find those sites. Siggy is the happy little critter adopted as a mascot by the United States Internet Genealogical Society (USIGS). For August, Siggy is beaming happily from the 1895 Atlas Project pages created by Pam Rietsch at http://www.ismi.net/lcmigw/1895.htm The Siggy committee chose her for its second award. For her "project is a labor of love" as she strives to put the entire 1895 Atlas on line. Rooters who go there will be able to find any town or community that existed in 1895. And not just if it existed, but a map of the site! The Atlas Project fulfilled all the requirements for the Siggy award, according to John Quigley, chairman of he Siggy committee. "It s free, it is online and it is for the benefit of the genealogical community as a whole." Thus the site well exemplifies the stated purpose of USIGS, for which it was organized in early summer. "A wonderful work," Quigley said. The Siggy logo will be displayed on Pams page and on that of the USGenWeb project which had the honor of winning the very first Siggy away in July. Siggy in all his glory will be found on the US Gen welcome page, at http://www.usgenweb.com/welcome/welcome/html. Several other sites have been named as Honorable Mention. These include the HendersonCounty,Ky, KyGenWeb page which has the 1850, 1860, 1880 and 1920 census records as well as death records form 1912-1922 on line; the Trigg County Kentucky KyGenWeb page which as the 1800, 1850 and 1920 census records, al cemetery records and other information; the Indiana InGenWeb page which has links to state-wide queries, bible records, surnames, biographies, obituaries and Civil War Project; the Original Muscatine County, Iowa, Genealogy home page and the Decatur County, Iowa, Genealogy home page. These sites may be accessed from the USIGS home page, http://www.usigs/org with links to Siggy Award. While there, incidentally, sign up for a look at The Signal, first newsletter of the organization, edited by DearMyrtle, AOLs resident genealogist. All these projects qualify by virtue of making available original data for research. Several sites looked at were excellent, according to the selections committee, but did not cite sufficient sources where facts could be verified. Many others are in process of creation and may be found in the projhects registry page. Siggy is a snooty little critter, in that only those projects which have been judged worthy for the monthly award may sport his logo. All USIGS members, however, may use the official red white and blue ellipse on their home pages. Membership, incidentally, is free, and signups may be done at the home page. The committee is always searching the web looking for good Siggy sites, Quigley stressed. Anyone with ongoing projects is encouraged to encouraged with USIGS which will spread the word to searchers. My WILLIAMS family originated in VA, possibly but not positively in Frederick Co., and moved down the Valley into east Tennessee and Kentucky. Edward Williams, born 1755/60, died 1833 in Campbell Co., TN. Does anyone in the family know where Edward was born? In VA probably? Alexander T. Williams, born 1797/1800 in VA, farm hand living in Campbell Co., TN in 1860, married Agnes ---, born 1801/02 in TN. Does anyone know Agnes' maiden name? Children of Alexander and Agnes: Granville B., born about 1829/32 in TN, married 11/30/1865 Samantha Jane Evans, Campbell Co., TN. Alsa G. (female), born about 1836 in TN. Emily C.,born about 1835. Adherbal, born about 1840 married Martha Nicholson. Calvin P., born about 1844, married (1)China Fultner (Faulkner) Nicholson about 1865 and (2)Julia Williams, married 3/3/1878 in Campbell Co., TN. Calvin died 1883/86 in Whitley Co., KY. Adam S., no info. Ferrill, no info. Julian, no info. Lucinda, born about 1849, died 12/17/1854, Campbell Co., TN. Margaret, no info. Martha J., no info. Mary, no info. Calvin P., born about 1844 Campbell Co., TN, died August 1883/6 in Whitley Co., KY. By 1880 listed as disabled in Civil War where he served as a private in Company B, 1st Regiment in the TN Union infantry, resided in both KY and TN, was a tenant laborer, belonged to the Baptist church. Parents were Alexander and Agnes. Calvin married China Fultner(Faulkner) Nicholson who died 9/20/1877 at Jellico in Campbell Co., TN at about 26 years of age. Calvin and China's children were (I'm sure this is not in order): 1 - James Lewis, also called "High Pockets", born 6/22/1868 or 6/23/1867 in Whitley Co., KY, died 9/13/1940 at Rt. 1, Gore, Hocking Co., Ohio, aged 73 years, 2 mo., 20 days, cause of death was prostate cancer, buried Dawley Cemetery in Hocking Co., Ohio. Married Mary Emmaline Ridenour (or Emmaline Mary). She's also buried at Dawley Cemetery, I remember that she died in the 1950s and was a little lady with a long dress and a bonnet. All their children moved to Ohio, except for John who I think moved back to TN. James and Emma were my great-grandparents. 2 - Betty, born in TN. 3 - Willie or Bill, born in KY. 4 - Morrison M. (male?), born 10/26/1877 in TN. With second marriage to Julia Williams (I believe I heard she was related in some way, maybe a second cousin), had a son Thomas, born 2/13/1879 in Campbell Co., TN. I have more details concerning Calvin's military service, family life afterwards, and affadavits taken for application for pension for Julia. Some of the names mentioned are Thomas and Delpha Smith, T. C. and Cynthia Mahan, Polly Smith, and P. W. Faulkner who was related to China. Please can anyone add to the info here? charla in nj Charla Marchione marchpubs@juno.com
