    3. I'm looking for a WEST family possibly from VA. I have very limited information, ?----- WEST married Ellen JONES. He died in 1786. There were supposedly 8 sons and 6 daughters of this marriage. So far, I have only one known son - Thomas WEST - born 19 Dec 1785. He and his mother went to KY (Fleming Co?) and then out to Brown Co, OH. Is anyone working on a WEST family who might fit here? 3. I've been responding privately (as time permits) to some of these requests for information. This person apparently wants to remain anonymous. Normally, I don't respond to requests from anonymous persons, but here goes to the list. I have seen the surname Bucher, sometimes spelled Boucher, in southern Frederick County in vicinity of North Mountain and Stephens City, in late 1700s. I'm familiar with a Jacob Bucher who was born about 1750ish. Seems like something is published on this family. Sorry that I don't have more time to verify and secure the exact title. Wilmer L. Now, from a previous posting I read, I am inclined to think they Taylor's may have been in New York/New Jesey. Is this a correct assumption? Where would I go for more info on this family? 3. Dear Corinne, Before Redstone MM look at Hopewell MM in Winchester VA. It was the mother meeting for those who went west of the mountains at an early date. The folks at Swarthmore Library are very helpful in figuring our where to look. Sometimes the answers can be quite surprising. There is a place named Fredericktown in Knox Co., Ohio. I visited a friend there and was told that a number of Quaker families went there from Frederick, MD to get away from slavery. When I went to look up these people for my friend I found that their meeting was under Alum Creek Meeting in Delaware, Co., Ohio a looooooong way away. 2. The accounts of Robert MCKAY, who received the land grant in the Shenandoah and fought with Lord Fairfax are well known. Since Benjamin BORDEN got his grant in the Shenandoah and both he and MCKAY lived in New Jersey before heading south, was there any connection between these families in New Jersey (or is this just coincidence) As far as I know McKAY researchers only know that MCKAY lived in New Jersey because of his deed in Cecil Co., Md. when he purchased land. ==== OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA Mailing List ==== Visit the Frederick County,VA USGenWeb Home Page! http://www.rootsweb.com/~vafreder/frederic.htm

    2. For additional info, everybody surf quickly over to www.ancestry.com. They are currently running under their 30-day free database access (before you have to pay $4.95 a month to subscribe) FOUR databases that have a lot of info on the Bordens, et al. They are Scotch-Irish Settlers Volumes I, II and III and a bicentennial book on Hopewell Friends Meeting 1734-1934. I've found these sources to be tremendously informative, and you can search online by just entering your family surname or any other keyword. Our ancestor Robert Worthington also went from NJ to Frederick Co in about 1730. Jacob Worthington married Abigail Borden, the daughter of Benjamin Borden. We maintain a fairly large database on the descendants of Samuel Worthington (1745/6- 1821), Robert's grandson who was one of the first settlers of Anderson County, Tennessee. 2. BULLDOG38
    3. I have CARPENTERs who were settled in Cumberland and Anson (Moore and Montgomery) Co., NC by the 1760s. Have been stuck at a roadblock with them for fifteen years, but now am seeing indications that they may have come down from Old Frederick(Hampshire) Co., VA, perhaps by way of Augusta/Botetourt. Have just learned that there was atleast a Solomon CARPENTER who settled on the Cacapon/Cacapehon/Capon River in the 1730s and Solomon is a name that runs in my CARPENTER line. There may have been other CARPENTERs there as well. Would anybody have any CARPENTER data from Frederick/Hampshire in the 1700s? Don't know with which families these CARPENTERs would conceivably have been associated in old Frederick, but two names which entered the line about then are Owen and Temple or Templeton. Perhaps there were connections with OWEN or OWENS and TEMPLETON, or atleast families who used those names. This is a new lead and it has been a long dry spell with these CARPENTERs. Would greatly appreciate any CARPENTER data anybody might have. 2. I'm not sure why--whether it's membership in a particular meeting or lack of Quaker meetings on the Frontier--but I've seen other instances of families living in one spot and the marriage taking place in the other. For example, one of the daughters of Robert McKay (from N.J. to Md. to Va.) Md. has a marriage recorded in Nottingham Monthly Meeting, modern Pa., even though they were living on the Opeccan (whatever spelling at the time) Can anybody enlighten me. ==== OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA Mailing List ==== List Problems? You are a great resourse for our group. I have recently acquired a map of the Borden grant in Augusta, Va. I was happily suprised to find a land owner by the name of William DEAN who had 265 acres of land in 1747. Since I am researching the DEANS who settled in Carroll, Va it is likely that there is a connection between these two. Now on to my question. Does anyone have any additional information on this particular William DEAN? I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me. Also, I am a descendant of Alexander Ross who settled in Old Frederick Co. I have some information on him and his family and would be happy to share if you would e-mail me privately.
