    1. Hartman

    3. We are searching for information on George Mortiz and Anna Margaretha Craydle Wolf Hartman. They may have resided in York Co, Lancaster Co, Berkeley Co, WV, Washington Co, MD, And Pendleton Co, WV. The only children for which we have total proof is John Peter born April 2, 1768and baptized April 24, 1768 in the Christ's Reformed Church in York County, PA. The translated record reads Parents: George Marcus and Anna Margaretha Hartman. Sponsor, Peter Wolf, Grandfather. According to Christ's Reformed Church Records, Anna Margaretha was born December 20, 1746 at John Peter's birth. The other child with proof is Moritz who was born October 20, 1784 and baptized October 27, 1784 in the Reformed Church of Shepherdstown, VA/WV. The record says Parents were Moritz (Mauretz) and Margaretha Hartman. Sponsors: Johannes Mohr and wife, Elisabeth. Does anyone know who johannes and Elisabeth Mohr are. Children of George & Anna :First is Henry born February 21, 1775, place unknown, but probably Berkeley County. He married first to Catherine Freshover on February 16, 1796 in Berkeley County. According to Morton, he married 2nd Eve Fultz and 3rd to Elizabeth Wise on May 26, 1825 in Pendleton.. The next child mentioned is James. Morton says he left when young and was never heard from. The census index has a James Hartman in 1810 living in Estill Co., KY. Does anyone know more about him? Moritz is listed next.Moritz was born 10-20-1784 in Washingon Co, MD. He married Elizabeth Cook and Sarah Harold Hoover. John is child #4.. Morton says John married Mary Hunter in 1795.A great grand daughter of John says Mary says Mary was a Fischer. Does anyone know anything? Child #5 is Daniel.. He married Mary Tiller on December 24, 1811 in Pendleton. 1830, 50-60yrs in 1840, Daniel was born around 1788. Margaret is Child #6. She was born January 4, 1787 and died April 6, 1883. She married July 15, 1807 in Pendleton to Jacob Bolton. Child #7 is Elizabeth. Morton says she married John George Dahmer in 1796. There is no proof. We believe that Elizabeth died between June, 1807 (birth of last child) and November 20, 1810, when George remarried to Nancy Skidmore. Child #8 is Mary. Morton says she married Jacob Clayton. No proof. Mary must have been born 1780-1782. There are supposedly 7-8 other children. We would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone with any information. Thanks, Patti and the "Hartmans" The History of Pendleton County, West Virginia" by Oren Morton says that 7 of the children of Georg Moritz Hartman did not come here. Several years ago I went to the Virginia State Archives in Richmond and looked at the Personal Property and Property Tax Records for Berkeley, Pendleton and Jefferson Counties. I began Berkeley in 1783 (I'm not sure why that year), but did find Moritz Hartman (Hartzman) (this is George Moritz) there from 1783 through 1796 and then in Pendleton in 1800. In 1789 a George Hartman appears in Berkeley along with Moritz. If he were a son and just turned 16 years, he possibly would have been born in 1773.Of course he may have just gotten married and would have been a few years older than 16. A William Hartman appears with "father and brother" in 1789. William does not appear anymore in Berkeley. I don't know who he was. Also in 1791 George Hartman is noted as a Journey man and Prentice Practitioner of Phisicks. Does this mean he was studying medicine? George is found in Berkeley through 1795. In 1794 Joseph Hartman appears and is found through 1800 in Berkeley. If he were 16 yrs in 1794, he would have been born around 1778. Christian Hartman appears in 1797 through 1805, which is when I stopped. If he were 16yrs in 1797, he may have been born around 1781. David and Martin Hartman both appear one time only in Berkeley in 1801. Martin is found in Jefferson from 1801-1811 when I stopped. David is found one time only on the 1798 PP of Pendleton. Martin is on a court list in Pendleton in 1811 and also on the 1840 census index for Loudoun County. I checked the Berkeley County Deeds from 1786-1796 for these men with no success. There are Hartmans listed in all the surrounding counties of Berkeley: Hampshire, Hardy, Frederick, Jefferson. I have checked most of their deeds, but if anyone can find anything more, I would appreciate it.

    1. Book: Civil War Marriage in Virginia
    2. G.M. Hope
    3. Good Morning Y'all, I recently saw a collection of letters of Kathleen Boone Samuels of Front Royal published under the title: _Civil War Marriage in Virginia, Reminiscences and Letters_. The copy I saw had been mis-bound by the publisher and pages 39-42 were left out (actually had other pages bound in their place). This book was published in 1956 by the Carr Publishing Co., Inc. of Boyce VA and the copyright is in the names of Carrie Ester Samuels Spencer, Bernard Samuels, Walter Berry Samuels and The Warren Rifles Confederate Museum of Front Royal, VA. My GGGrandfather and/or my family were mentioned several times in this book, one of these being on the missing pages. I would appreciate it if anyone who has access to a copy would describe the references to Hope appearing on Pages 39-42 or would copy (Xerox, scan???) these four pages for me and mail or e-mail them to me (I'll pay for any costs, of course). I have checked with the Warren Rifles Museum but the volunteer that day knew nothing about this book and I have been unable to find it in any local bookstores when I have been able to get up to Front Royal. I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer on this problem. Thanks, George Hope ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ G.M. 3. Hello, I am wondering if anyone has a record of any of the Wall/Walls family or the Grigsby family marrying in Frederick Co., between 1789-through 1810. I also need any info on a Susan_________ who married a Walden man between 1820- 1835. I know the info is scanty. My g-g-grandmother Martha E. Walden, married Jesse Burt Wall around 1860-1865 in Linoln Co., KY. But the story has it that she came into Kentucky from Virginia in a covered wagon. Her mother's husband signed for Martha but his last name was missing. I don't know who Martha's real father's name was. The Wall that I know who was married in 1789 in Frederick Co, was Francis Wall who married Sarah Grigsby, daughter of Benjamin Grigsby. I don't know anything else about his family, except that I think he was in the French/Indian War, about 1756 from the counties around Culpeper. Any information is appreciated.
