To all concerned: I would suggest ordering the book on inter-library loan if your local library doesn't have it. That's what I did. It is a very informative book. It has not only land possesion, sales and wills of land; it also at times will give whole family groups and lists of people who attended weddings. I not only found a lot on my Morgan line but also the ancestry of many that later married into my Morgan line. Happy hunting, Linda
On 24 Mar 1769, James Pearce witnessed a lease between Martin Wolford and Jacob Vandevear of Frederick County, VA. The other witness was Thomas Shepherd. I believe this probably took place in the area of "present day" Shepherdtown, Jefferson County, WVA I'm interested in any info on Pearce families in this area. Judy [email protected]

"John Portlock was a white baby that the soldiers found in an Indian camp. They took him to a fort called Lock Port. They reversed the name and called him John Portlock. I always thought it was my Great Grandfather, but as I located information on him, I realized that this was not true. Later, when I was unable to find information on his grandfather, John Portlock, I wondered if he was the baby found in the Indian Camp." Our Ancestor, John Portlock's Rev. War Pension App. states that he was born in Shenandoah. We haven't found a Portlock family in the area in 1765, (his birth date), although there are a lot of Portlocks in Norfolk, VA. Portlock is an established name in the Norfolk area. Our question -- Is there, or has there ever been, a Lock Port up in the Shenandoah Valley. If so, it may give credence to this story. Below is the response I got from eBay, concerning selling grave markers. Thanks to all of you for your support. I agree that selling markers that had been legally replaced is okay - however, creating a market for ANY grave marker, is, in my opinion, asking for trouble. Again, thanks Diana Hello, We would like to thank you for taking the time to forward this information to us. eBay relies on dedicated users such as yourself to assist us in keeping eBay the kind of community of which we all can be proud. Although we are not always able to catch the small percentage of illicit activity that occurs in the thousands of transactions completed each day, with your assistance we can make things better for everyone. The auctions in question have been ended by eBay and the Safe Harbor team has been alerted. Thanks again for your time and concern for the eBay community. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. I don't know if anyone else heard from ebay anout the gravemarkers, but here is what they sent me today: "Jay -- We do not permit these items, and the ones that were brought to our attention this morning have been removed. I will happy to discuss how they are put on the site without our permission -- please call me at (408) 558-5948. Rob Chesnut, Associate General Counsel, eBay" Jay French [email protected]
Does anyone have an information concerning the connection of Marcus Hulings and David Rose? I have a copy of letter signed by Hulings (and others) defending David Rose's occupancy of Duncan Island, PA circa 1767. Thanks, Jack Rose
Will someone please e-mail E-Bay about selling those markers. I tried and do not have an account. They indeed look like stolen property. I do not have an account and this needs to be reported to the FBI and or police. Where is this e-bay anyhow? http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=95765135 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=95765620 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=96301772 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=98328212 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=96742252
