    1. [OLD-FREDERICK-CO-VA] HENRY
    2. Diane Kittle
    3. I'm trying to find information on the Henry family that moved to Martinsburg, Frederick Co., VA in 1745, long before the county was separated into Berkeley Co. and/or became WV. I'm trying to find the parents of a Moses Henry b. abt. 1754 who later lived in the Gooney Manor area of Shenandoah Co., VA. I believe the family came from Lancaster Co., PA after moving there from Chester Co., PA. They were mostly gunsmiths and blacksmiths and often lived near forges or furnaces. Moses was eventually supposedly buried at a place called Mt. Hope, possibly in the Martinsburg area??? Has anyone heard of a Mt. Hope cemetery or Mt. Hope area? Is anyone researching the Henry surname? This Moses lived close to a Conrad Henry and next to a Samuel Henry after moving to Shenandoah in 1783. The names of some of his children and/or grandchildren were William, George, Enoch, Michael, Moses, Rachel, Mary, Nancy, and possibly Peter, Brian, and Elizabeth (not proven yet). This Moses either had a wife or mother named Susannah. Does the name Susannah Henry ring a bell with anyone? If anyone can point me in the right direction or has any information it will certainly be appreciated. Thank you.

    3. I haven't written to the list for a while, so thought I'd try again. I have been looking for any information on David Julian Girard, born 1857. His death certificate says he was born in Frederick County, Virginia. I haven't been able to find anything prior to his coming to California "as a young man" as his obituary said. If anyone has information on this family, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. My thanks Juanita in Oregon

    3. Several months ago some folks on this list sent me some very helpful information about my Stribling family. I am again searching for information on the deaths of William Stribling and his wife in Frederick Co, VA in about 1748. I am not sure if this is the correct list because I have the location as Winchester so perhaps I should be sending this to another list. I am also searching for information about Benjamin Taylor, wife Elizabeth, and daughter Mary Taylor. Thanks. Patricia Max

    3. Can anyone tell me how far the location referred to as White Hall, Frederick County is from the location of Averill Township Smithfield Post Office Jefferson County is. I have found a Catherine Bailey at White Hall in 1860 and Catherine Bailey at other location in 1870. Hoping these are the same people to clear up family mystery. Some members are the same and then there are some unheard of. I am hoping that they are close enough to be the same. I know that this was a tumultuous time so maybe they moved. Any input would sure be appreciated Thanks, Deanne

Cartmell Page 491-492 ----------the Beatty families found at this day about Stephens City and country East, viz: the late Capt. John W. Beatty, R. S. Beatty, J. C. and several others, are traceable from Capt. Henry Beattie who has been mentioned in these pages as an officer in the Revolutionary War and other war periods.---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------Col. Henry Beattie died in 1840, eighty years old. He was in command of a VA Regiment at Crainey Island in 1813. He had a son Dr. Stephen Rittenhouse Beatty, and a daughter Juliet who married John Shipe. Their tombs are in Mr. Hebron. Three brothers of this name came from Ireland when young, and settled East of the Blue Ridge. Two of these are found in the regiments during the Indian Wars. They secured land inFrederick County, near where Front Roal now stands; and their descendants are found in Warren County now, on part of the same land. The large family mentione, living in Frederick County, are chiefly the children of Rober Beatty who died in 1888, aged 88. The Beatty Family article mentions Henry C. Beatty's children are: J. C., Minnie, Frank and David. R. S. Beatty's children are: James R., John S., Harry E., Chas. C., Lloyd W., Atwell S., Guy T., Ida B., wife of Wm. Lewin, and Flora B. wife of A. R. Woods. Samuel W. 3. Perhaps a connection with your Michael Crouse... MICHAEL R. CROUSE. He is the son of George and Elizabeth (Rosberry) Crouse, was born in Greene county, Pennsylvania, February 11, 1813, and in 1841 cast his future fortunes in with the people of Pleasants county, West Virginia. Dennis and Matilda (McClelland) Forest, residents of Belmont county, Ohio, were the parents of Marie Forest, born in August, 1833, who became the wife of Michael R. Crouse, and the mother of his children, born as follows: Abram M., April 25, 1835, deceased; Elizabeth J. (Wagoner), born in 1841, lives in this county; Sarah A. (McCulloch), born October 1, 1844, lives at home; Charles L., April 2, 1855, lives in Pike county, Missouri. The oldest son was in the Union army in the war of 1861, in the 14th West Virginia Volunteers, and was taken prisoner at the battle of Cloyd Mountain, and sent to the Anderson where he died. M. R. Crouse's father was born in Pennsylvania, in 1771, and died in Belmont county, Ohio, at the age of 107. His mother died at the good old age of 85. Mr. Crouse has served in his district four years as justice of the peace, to which position he was elected in 1862; from 1868 to 1872 as constable; and six years surveyor of roads. He is now engaged in farming in Union district, his farm lying along Middle Island creek. ----- Original Message ----- From: "wilcoxphoto" <wilcoxphoto@dmci.net> Sent: Saturday, January 18, 2003 5:30 AM Am trying to find parents of a Robert Beatty (Beaty) b ca 1796-1801) and Jane Crouse (Krouse) and Michael Crouse (Krouse). Jane was born ca 1813 and married Robert Beatty in 1831 in Frederick Co. VA. Robert and Jane later lived near Middletown, VA. Some of their children lived in Reliance, Middletown, Front Royal, Stephens City, and Strasburg. Both Jane and Robert are buried in the Riding's Chapel Cemetery. I found a marriage record for a Michael Crouse (Krouse) and Elizabeth Sherf (Shert) in 1818, Frederick Co. VA. .
