    3. Good Day to you All - [It really must be in some parts I suppose?] "Thomas Bolton & Anne admitted tenant of Manor of Hollesley" These were the stated parents of a John Bolton on his marriage. Is Anne really without parents do you think? This parentage remark also applies to John Bolton's brother Robert's spouse! Kind Regards and successful searches Roy & June Cox www.btinternet.com/~roy.cox/index.htm

As Anne is named, either this came from her father OR Thomas had surrendered it fort the purpose of having his wife admiited jointly with himself, so that she would retain the copyhold after his death, for her own lifetime, instead of its passing straight to the son. > >These were the stated parents of a John Bolton on his marriage. I don't follow - until 1837, there is no syayement of parents in a marriage entry - and even then, only the father is named. Did you mean a baptismal entry? > >Is Anne really without parents do you think? This does not make sense. She was admitted as the wife of Thomas Bolton - and if the copyhold was her father's, he will actually be named in a previous surrender (John Bloggs died and his next heir was Anne the wife of Thomas Bolton'_ or if the copyhold was Thomas's and he was just ensuire that she had life tenancy, there is no need to state her parent's name. > > >This parentage remark also applies to John Bolton's brother Robert's spouse! How do you mean? - in a normal baptismal entry in English parish registers, the maiden name of the wife is not stated (exceptions, mainly in York diocese at a certain date.) -- Eve McLaughlin Author of the McLaughlin Guides for family historians Secretary Bucks Genealogical Society
