The two Archbishops are in charge of the whole country which is divided into two provinces, that of Canterbury and the other of York. Canterbury is the senior province, hence the Archbishop of Canterbury is the head of Church of England, under the King/Queen who is the supreme head, and the Archbishop of York is the next in seniority to the Archbishop of Canterbury. He often succeeds to the post at Canterbury when this Archbishop retires.
