    3. I think that I would want to know, if at all possible, how many of the male population were sailors. Living at that distance from the coast, it's possible that many of them were employed in seagoing occupations but, equally, most of them may have been able to earn their livings in agriculture or other similar landbased employment. If there were a lot of sailors, then naming their daughters after the patron saint of sailors might have been regarded as a good luck token in the hope that St. Barbara would take special care of the fathers of girls so named.
