My g-g-uncle, Isaac McHugh, was one of the first in the county during the Oklahoma Land Rush. His daughter, Alta, married an M. G. Merritt, and lived in Woods County until her death in the 1970's. I believe her husband's first name was Martin, but not sure. I am trying to find out M. G. (NOT in the U.S.) and came to U.S. from the Alsace-Lorraine (Germany/France) area with his wife (either Elisabeth or Philemina Yanson). They first went to Iowa and then eventually to Alva area in mid 1800's. There were at least 3 sons born to them between 1844 and 1856 or 57 in the U.S. (e.g. John Nicola, Henry Nicola, and Andy Nicola). Trying to find wife's name, date of their death (and circumstances) and any information available on the 2 of them. Also trying to find info on name McClelland Don't have much info on the father or the son except they apparently lived in the Alva area in the early 1900's. The father of John McClelland married my blood relative - Martha [Baker] Nicola after her divorce from Andy Nicola (she became their housekeeper and apparently it did not look well to see a single woman in a house with a single man - and maybe his son so Mr. McClelland married Martha). Sometime after Martha's marriage to the father, Martha married his son, John McClelland (family rumor has it that John married Martha because he owed her money he could not repay.) I can only speculate the marriage to John McClelland was after the father McClelland's death. Thank you so much.
