Melodee, Chow Chow is a relish made by several different recipes. Typical Chow Chow recipes will include a green tomato (and maybe onion) and vinegar base with other things thrown in dependent on the �family recipe� of those that make it. Some use cucumber, others green and hot peppers. The use of Chow Chow is as a sauce or garnish. Country folk in the south ate it along with their beans and corn bread which was their main meal until recent years (past 30 years). They made and canned Chow Chow during the summer when all of the ingredients were available in their garden and had it available all through the winter.
