He was shot and killed in Coffeyville, Montgomery Co., KS on June 11, 1919 at the age of 30 years and 3 months. He was supposedly killed by "revenuers" while "running whiskey" between Kansas and Oklahoma. He may have been with relatives (FOWLER uncles?) when it happened. His body was sent back to Tulsa, OK for burial. He and his wife were living in Tulsa, OK in 1919 and he either owned or worked in a hotel. Mabel probably remarried as she is not buried with him, but I have also found an SSDI listing for a Mabel Fowler whose last known address was in Tulsa, OK......so not sure. William had been previously married and divorced in Texas and had one daughter by that union. I don't know where he married Mabel or when. I also don't know if they had any children.
