    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EZB.2ACE/1157 Message Board Post: Whoa, I spoke too soon. Ottawa County is NOT the only county in Oklahoma to upload marriage license information dating back before statehood (1907). Atoka County has license info from the early 1900's. God bless those court clerks! Do you suppose they got tired of taking calls from family researchers? I wonder if other counties will follow suit... Molly ------------------------------------- [Prior email re: county court databases now online] This link will take you to ONE of TWO Oklahoma court websites. This site has over fifty (count 'em!) counties available--among Oklahoma's 77 total number of counties. http://www.odcr.com/ HOW TO LOCATE A MARRIAGE LICENSE IN OTTAWA COUNTY: 1. Read "Search Hints" on the upper right hand side. Or, 2. First, "Select County to search" by narrowing the drop-down menu to OTTAWA COUNTY. 3. Type in a surname. If you want to add a first name, SEPARATE the two names by a comma after the surname. Example: hopper, clifford 4. Unless you want to get ALL case information for that name, narrow your search to JUST marriage licenses by clicking on the FIRST drop-down menu after "Case Number to search for" and patiently scrolling through all the many many acronyms until you get to "ML" (marriage license). 5. Click on the rectangular button "Search for Cases." 6. Be patient. Assuming a name/case pops up, click on the BLUE case number link to open up the particular case. If it is a marriage license, the clerk will very often note the name of the town that the "party" then lived. See something you like? Write the clerk for a copy of the license. 7. This link leads to the OTHER Oklahoma court database. Once again, read the "HELP" section to learn to navigate: http://www.oscn.net/applications/oscn/casesearch.asp

Many people from Tulsa and the surrounding areas went to Miami, OK to be married. It is my understanding that Miami did not require a waiting period. Good Luck Linda

I know that Bertie Jones was in Oklahoma from 1909 and died in 1964 in Tulsa. I am unsure when he married Marguerite, although I know that she is not shown on the census as living with Bertie prior to 1930, so assume that it is after this date. I believe that Marguerite may well have been Bertie's 2nd wfe. Marguerite was still alive in 1967, but I don't know what happened to the family after this. Bertie was the father of at least one son, who also had the name Bertie.

The years are 1890 to 1911. In among the items, I'm seeing listed a lot of areas in the Indian Territory. Some times the town may have been spelled like they thought it should be spelled so you may need to search for the surname if you are wanting to find someting in the newspaper items. There are a lot of towns named and also a few counties. I do remember that I have posted data in one place or another on these counties: Cherokee, Tulsa, Bryan, Kay, Pottawatomie, Greer, Osage, Mayes, Oklahoma City, Muskogee, and Payne Counties. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~haddockfamily/index.htm Donna
