Linda, thank you for your effort doing this post. I didn't live on the North side (I grew up on the near West side of Tulsa, practically downtown -- on Jackson Place just off of W. third just before the Frisco tracks overpass heading toward Newblock Park and Sand Springs.). I graduated from Central in 1958. Anyway, I noticed the name of the author of the first article posted -- a Eunice BUSHYHEAD. Back in the mid 50's one of my uncles on my mother's side and his family lived in a small town named BUSHYHEAD. Town my foot! The town consisted of one "filling station" with store and a grade school. This town was/is located just East of a slightly bigger town named Foyle which was just a few miles East of Claremore on highway 66. I often wondered where the name BUSHYHEAD came from and long ago concluded that it must have been named after some guy that had several bad hair days. Now that I know that there are actually people with that last name I have changed my conclusion. Proves that one never stops learning. I ran across a couple of pages I saved from The Northside News newspaper dated Mar 13, 1958. I'm trying to locate old copies of this weekly newspaper. Anyone ever heard of the Northside News? Any idea where to start? It's not filmed by the OK Archives and I've had no luck with the search engines. Hello: My name is Ruth Klein. I am trying to trace my great-grandfather, Abner H. Twiss. I have a letter from him to my grandmother dated July 3, 1895. He is writing to her and telling her about living in the Tulsa area. He tells her about the different crops there are; peaches, corn, and how warm it is. He works for a Mr. Evans. He tells about the cattle that are ready to send to Kansas City and Chicago. Also he tells about how wild and wicked it is and about the killing of Wild Bruce Miller and Tulsa Jack. He tells about killing wild turkeys and deer squirrels. What I am looking for is is there any record or him living or dying there. I know this very little to go on, but I am hoping. Thank you for any information that you might provide.
