I am trying to see if those records are available online. I am looking for a Calvin Ramage, born someplace in the midwest in April 1852 -- surviving records say both Ohio and Illinois, so I am guessing he lived both places. The last place I can put him for sure is living in a boarding house in Oklahoma City in 1900 for the 1900 census. I know for sure he was alive Easter 1908 when he sent postcards to several family members. I haven't been able to find him on the 1910 census at all, and his children, whom he placed in an orphanage when their mother died in 1898, had heard that he died in the "Tulsa County Poorhouse and was buried in a pauper's grave by the county in 1924 or thereabouts."

I did a Google search and found a 1930 Census listing. It is ED#66-19 Page 192 Sheet 1B. I understand your person died in 1924 but this might give you an idea of where to look in the 1920 Census. It might also ring a bell with someone else or at least tell you what to ask for. There also could be other information in Google or other searches. I am sure I have read about it somewhere in Rootsweb.

    1. Re: [OKTulsa] Tulsa County poorhouse, ca. 1924
    2. In my state there is a Coroner/Public administrator who is charged with the disposition of paupers and their meager goods. No death announcements in the paper even, with rare exceptions where the hunt for a relative or something about the death generates a story in the paper. In doing look ups for folks, I have occasionally found that the county buried their relative and put them in touch with the public administrator office directly. So far no feed back, so I don't know what extra information was available to a family member as opposed to just a genealogy helper. I have had pretty good luck in calling the county govt. there too, so would not hesitate to recommend that you give it a try. -----Original Message----- >From: HuneycuttL@missouri.edu >Sent: Apr 18, 2006 2:53 PM >To: OKTULSA-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [OKTulsa] Tulsa County poorhouse, ca. 1924 > >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > >Classification: Query > >Message Board URL: > >http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EZB.2ACE/1319 > >Message Board Post: > >I've been told, through oral family tradition, that a family member of mine died in the "Tulsa Oklahoma poorhouse" around 1924 and was buried in a pauper's grave by the county. 3. The main Tulsa Library (http://www.rootsweb.com/~oktulsa2/libraries.html) has a card index of vital information (births, deaths & marriages) abstracted from the Tulsa Daily World and The Tulsa Tribune newspaper that covers that time period. The library also has the early newspapers on microfilm. The reference section contains all of the early city directories and phone books. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EZB.2ACE/1318 Message Board Post: I have just inherited a scrapbook put together by my grandmother, Gaynal Faye Ramage Sime, in the early part of the 20th century. Part of it covers her girlhood in the Evans community near Broken Arrow. She claims to have about 150 cousins and second cousins in the area. Her parents were James Ira Ramage, d. 1911 and buried at Park Grove Cemetery, I think actually in Wagoner County, and Martha Elizabeth Sullivan Ramage. Her paternal grandparents were Lila Marie Cobler Ramage and Calvin Ramage. Lila died in the 1890s and Calvin was in Oklahoma City for the 1900 census. They had three children: Cleo (female), James Ira, and Clarence Ramage. Grandma's scrapbook has dozens of photos from between about 1880-1911, and they are mostly labled "me and my cousins" or something frustratingly similar. There are a few names "Cousin May Cobler" "Cousin Mabel Cobbler" and "Cousin Albert," who seems to have been the brother of May. There's a note saying she went back to Oklahoma ! in the 1950s and saw a cousin whom she hadn't seen in forty years. No name, of course. I would love to talk with anyone who recognizes these names or who might be related to either the Ramage or the Cobler families.
