    2. Published in Georgia Times Union, South Georgia's version of the Florida Times Union, Friday, August 24, 2001 - Off Associated Press wire  This is the article in its entirety - please pass the info on to all and any lists to which you might be subscribed.  We need to stop people who do this kind of desecration. ***** Missing county documents found for sale on Internet RICHMOND HILL, GA - Historic documents ripped out of books stolen from the Bryan and Thomas county courthouse have been recovered after authorities found them for sale on an Internet auction site. A Richmond Hill man was selling the documents he had gotten from a Savannah man, authorities said. "The best we can determine is that he got it from someone, who got it from someone, who got it from someone who buys and sells items like that," said Thomas County sheriff's investigator Joe McMurray. McMurray said the books, which contained priceless documents, have been missing for more than 12 years. Although the men were not charged, McMurray said it was unlikely they did not know the documents were stolen. "Any normal person would know that official documents were stolen, but I don't think thay had anything to do with it," McMurray said. Each page of three large books was auctioned on eBay for as much as $150. Thomas County Probate Judge Sally Hart said document buyers should have realized they were stolen. "This is part of the county's history that was stolen," Hart said. "The documents included marriage certificates, property deeds and catalogues with the names of slaves and slave owners dating back to 1837," McMurray said. **** Not only have they stolen priceless history documents but they have stopped family history researchers in their tracks or at least derailed them and made the search that much harder.

    1. [OKTULSA] A Murder
    2. Need help!! I have found that one of my lines has a bigger brick wall then I thought I had. Martha "Mattie" A. (Dacus) Blevens/Blevins, br 1876 Arkansas Died after 1910 Oklahoma. Martha married Felix Blevens/Blevins Indian Territory, Creek Nation, (Muskogee) Okla 1898 Their Children, Dora Pearl, (md Dale White) Mabel E. (md Unk Rogers), Julia M (md Felix Habrick), Claud (md UNK) Have been told recently that Felix L. Blevens/Blevins was killed after 1906. His wife, Martha "Mattie" A. was a widow in 1910 census. Martha "Mattie" A. Blevens/Blevins, died between 1910 and 1920. She was working for a family in the country (unknown who this family was) and this family's son raped and murdered her, threw her body in a creek. Martha's mother found her body in a creek. This happened in or around Broken Arrow, Wagoner or Muskogee area Oklahoma. This information comes from a 89 yr old woman that is still living, she was her grand mother, Bertie Gibson's sister, I have searched for a newspaper article, which I would think it would have been reported. Have reasons to believe this happened between 1915 and 1920. Without a date of death, this is very hard to track down. There should have been a trial, but unable to find any information. Can anyone help or know anything about this murder? Here's hoping! Jay [email protected]

The birth and adoption would have taken place in Tulsa. If you have any info, I'd appreciate it.

    1. [OKTULSA] Re: Dora Butcher Gibson
    2. Hi! I am doing research for a friend. His name is Jerry Gibson. His father John Raymond Gibson was born in 1919. Oscar Gibson, born in 1895, is Jerry's grandfather. He thinks his grandmother (Oscar's wife) was Margaret. Jerry's mother died in the early 1940's when he was about 4 yrs. old. He thinks his mother's name was Dortheal (sp?). He is not sure what her maiden name was, but he thinks it could be Williams, or Williamson. Jerry's family would not share any info with him about his mom. He thinks she may have had Indian heritage. He has some recollection of family. An aunt named Fannie, a cousin named Ken Gibson married to Beatrice, and some relatives with the name Bennet (sp?). The family was primarily from the Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma areas and also the Texas area. Would you know of any connections to this family? Thanks, Gail Huber I can be e-mailed at: [email protected]
