Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EZB.2ACE/608.1.1 Message Board Post: Keith, I looked up Homer in SSDI, that's where I got date of death. I already had date of birth, and it matched up. No, I am not positive of the place of death for Homer. I know he lived in Tulsa at one time, in fact that is referenced in the above mentioned SSDI, but Ok. was listed as where the final payment was sent. I don't know the dates of his work history, I know he worked as a policeman, and at the Douglas Aircraft co. in Tulsa, because in my Grandmother's things, he sent her a poem on their stationary. Douglas Aircraft Company, Inc. Tulsa Plant, Cable Address "Douglasair" In reply refer to File Tulsa 2, Oklahoma That was the letter head. You asked how reliable my info was, not very. I have very little info on my Grandmother's brothers. I know their names, I have looked up their dates in SSDI, and that's about it. I know Homer was in the military, because he sent a postcard with his pic on it that said "Belong to the Engineer Company A. Tulsa Ok." I know he was a policeman because Grandma mentions it in one of her poems, and the letter head on the other poem he sent. She sent a poem in return, I have both if you are interested. I also have pics of Homer in a suit, and a pic of him as a small child. I also have a picture of Martha Salena (King) Cross and Lemuel Granville Cross, along with the first four of their children. (parents and sibs of Homer) And if you're descended from Homer, I have a postcard sent to my grandmother from her father, Lemuel, if you would be interested in having something hand written from him. And I have some info farther back than that. Please contact me if a! ny of these things sound interesting to you, and if you have any info on Homer that you would be willing to share, I would love to have. Thank You Jackie

Surnames: Benell, Benton, Huff, Jones, Prater, Steele, Todd Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EZB.2ACE/654 Message Board Post: Hi, I have just found the widow of Joshua Benton, b. 1839 Indiana, in the 1920 census for Tulsa County in the township of Wekiwa. Susie ?, b. 1851 Ohio, was married in 1878 to Joshua Benton (possibly in Missouri). They lived in Missouri until 1902 according to Civil War pension papers. By 1907, Susie is a widow and she has filed papers again for Civil War pension but this time from Oklahoma. They had 9 children with only 4 living in 1900. Alpha Benton, b. 1879; Arnissa, b. 1884; Harrison (Harry) & Cleveland, b. 1893; all in Missouri. In the 1920 census it lists Susie Benton as the head of the household at age 69, Glenn E. Benton, 13, grandson, William, 11, grandson, & Harry Benton, 27, son (single, these boys are his nephews). There is no information about the other children. I would like any information about these people. Joshua is the eldest brother to my gg-grandfather, Thomas Benton. I have lots of information to share. Thanks so much, Gwendolyn Prater Dalseg

    1. [OKTulsa] Obituary Look Up Request
    2. Stephen Carlile
    3. I think ( but do not know) that Margie E. Hurt who died 14 Feb 2002 in Pueblo Colorado, may have had her funeral services in Tulsa, and was probably buried in the area, perhaps alongside her husband, as the newspaper in Colorado indicated that "All services to be held in Oklahoma". I think that there would have been an obituary or notice of some kind in the newspaper in Tulsa, but again this is a guess on my part. Margie was married to John Hurt, and there is a John Hurt listed on the SSDI as having died in Feb of 1979, with last residence given as Tulsa, Oklahoma, which is why I am guessing that Tulsa may be the place in Oklahoma where Margie was laid to rest. Would someone be able to check the local newspaper for an obituary for Margie Hurt for me?

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EZB.2ACE/497.1 Message Board Post: I understand your pain. In April of 1966, my own daughter was ran over by an inattentive driver who was leaving my residence. Instead of the lady backing out the driveway, she backed across my front yard, and ran over my 15 month old daughter. I suppose the fact that I was 9 months pregnant with twins deterred the law enforcement from filing charges. But, in the process of trying to run and save my daughter, I fell and killed one of the twins I was carrying. The other baby was born 18 days later. Only God knows why these things happen. My grandmother told me that no one ever gets taken home to heaven unless they are perfect. I have always reminded myself of that. I try to think that my baby daughter became perfect that afternoon and it was time for her to go home. It is not easy living with the pain, but I have had to for 36 years. May God Bless and Keep His Hand on Your Shoulder. Mary

    1. [OKTulsa] Tulsa Request
    2. Is there someone on the list that might be able to help this young person? Jeff Smith, Tulsa County Coordinator and Archivist Hi Jeff, I was wondering if you knew of anyone I could bother to go to Memorial Cemetery in Tulsa and take a picture of my husband's great grandfathers grave.I haven't called the cemetery yet but I will if you know of anyone who would do this for me. In return I would happily visit a cemetery in the Philly area and take pictures for anyone who needs help with something like that. I don't know when if ever I will get to OK and I would love to see a picture of the grave. His name is George Mathews Cope, he was born March 2, 1892 in PA and died Sept. 24, 1956. He left PA after my husband's great grandmother died and he moved to OK where he met a woman who I know only as Fannie, I do know that they married and lived when he died at 519 1/2 W. Cameron St. in Tulsa, I was told that he opened his own printing business in Tulsa. I know nothing about Fannie or if they ever had any children. I have a blank page in my family file where the info for George should be, his only remaining child from his first marriage is on her last leg and I know it would please her to finally put an end to her wondering about her father. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks either way. Yours Truely, Jennifer Cook White 2961 Mercer St. Philadelphia, PA 19134 215-426-2846 Thanks.
