Connie, best of luck in locating your roots. The Chickasaw Nation was part of the Indian Territory before Oklahoma was made a state in 1907. It was a large area, and Stephens County (and Duncan) are located in a part of what was once the Chickasaw Nation, I think. Most of the Cherokee Tribe, however, made their headquarters in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. That area in NE Oklahoma has a rich treasure of Cherokee records. I would certainly suggest making contact with the Tahlequah site for further info.
