Is there anyone in Duncan who can do some research for me? Information and charges please. Alice
Can someone possibly do a lookup for me? I am looking for a divorce decree for P.L. (Preston) Leonard and Irene Ramsey. This is the timeline of what I know for them: 1. P.L. Leonard and Irene Ramsey married June 26, 1916 in Anadarko, OK. 2. P.L and Irene's first child, Clara Norene Leonard was born in 1917. 3. P.L. and Irene's second child, Rowan "Preston" Leonard was born in 1919. 4. In 1920 P.L. Irene, "little Preston" and Norene were living in McKinley Township, Anadarko,OK. This is where we loose track of them. Irene and her parents (father's name unknown, mother's name was Emma) took the children and left. Now, P.L. went to Lawton, OK because in 1924, he married Mollie Rutherford in Lawton and that is also where they divorced. I have called Comanche County and they do not have a divorce decree there for P.L. and Irene. I also called Cadoo County and they told me the same, no divorce decree. P.L's obituary, says that he was in Duncan before going to Lawton,Ok. The only other County they had lived in that I know of was Grady County,OK Could someone check to see if there is a divorce decree for them there in Stephens County? I'd appreciate it so much. I have incurred so much money on phone calls trying to find out something. Thanks, Jennifer Powers
Could someone do a look up for me on the 1910 Stephens County census? I am looking for my grandfather Preston (P.L.) Leonard and the people who lived in the house with him. He later moved to Comanche County where he married Mollie Rutherford in 1924. His obit said that he was in Duncan before going to Lawton where he died. I desperately need help on this. He and the first wife had two kids, Rowen P. Leonard and Clara Norene Leonard. The mother took the kids and left and they were never heard of again. I have pictures of them and on the back of the pic's it says taken during WW I. They may still be alive. Thank you for your help! Jennifer Powers

Jim, That's great! I was born in the 60's, but either because of my attraction to history or my adoration for my grandfather, who fought in the war, I've always had a special place in my heart for the men of that era. Men who, like my grandfather, didn't think twice about "doing the right thing". I'm sure my kids, who range from 15 years to 5 years old, get tired of hearing me describe times in our country's history that I feel they should understand and have a passion for. But I want them to understand that when we look back on important events or occasions in history, it's not just what occurred, but usually, what is significant, is the character and actions of the people involved. That's why days like yesterday are important to me and why conversations with our kids and grandkids are necessary. This year we took our kids to the local service at the cemetery on Memorial Day. My 13 year old was choked up afterwards. I don't think he understood why he was so affected, but I believe he will remember the experience. I realize that not everyone is passionate about history like I am, but I feel good knowing that my children will tell their children ..and so on. I didn't mean to ramble on..... Thanks for sharing with us, Jim. Sheri At 11:20 AM 11/12/1999 -0600, you wrote: >DMonkres@aol.com wrote: > >> I just checked, and Duane's email address is DMonkres@aol.com >> Thanks for the promo! DMonkres@aol.com wrote: > I just checked, and Duane's email address is DMonkres@aol.com > Thanks for the promo! Duane ============= Duane, Just a Note...Yesterday being Vets Day we put our flag out as usual, but this time it was a little different. I printed out the piece about the WWII years in Duncan. I then drew a map showing the United States, the Atlantic Ocean, and most of Europe and North Africa.. I colored in red the area occupied by Germany prior to D-Day on June 6, 1944. I then went to the store and rented the movie, Saving Private Ryan. My purpose was to try to give my teen-age grandkids some feel of what it was like living in the 1940's. When they came in from school I told them I had something planned to begin at 6PM, so they needed to get their homework done and over with. At 6PM we sat at the kitchen table and I got out the map I had drawn and gave them a very brief overview of Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939, then the occupation of the other countries up until 1944. I pointed out the island of England as the last place the Germans had not occupied, and the location of the English Channel, and the coast of France. I explained who the Allies were, and who the Axis were, and how the supplies and equipment had been stockpiled in southern England to get ready to cross the English Channel and to face the Germans on the coast of France. We then started the movie and I pointed out that the cemetery in the opening sceen is a real one that exits today on the coast of France, and that the water in the background was the English Channel. They sat glued to the movie for almost three hours. The other only comment I made during the movie was to pay attention to the small banner in the window with the stars on it and I would tell them something about it after the movie. When the movie was over, they sat in dead silence for a few minutes. I then asked my 14 year old grandaughter to read the account of how it was in Duncan in the 1940s, and told them that's how it was in every small town in the United States back then. As she read about the banner with the stars on it in the window, I detected that something was sinking in. They were getting a glimpse of the lives and times of us "old people" they had not had before. I hope this is something they will remember as they become "old people" themselves. Jim in Texas

I have the Pottawatomie Co., OK History Book and would be happy to do lookups. Please limit your request to 3 surnames. If you can provide given names that is very helpful. Be sure to reference the book in the subject line. I delete alot of mail without even reading it if the subject line does not catch my attention. Please note: There are several "lookup offers" on this list. When you request a look-up please be specific as who you are requesting the service of and/or list the source you are requesting the lookup from, and be sure to follow the guidelines of the person who made the offer. Those wanting info on the book please read below! I purchased it from: Santa Fe Depot Museum PO Box 114 Shawnee, OK 74802 Country Lane Press, Claremore, OK printed 1987 It has aprox 675 pages, 54 of those pages are the index of names. I am a volunteer here at the Pontotoc Co. Hist. Soc. and am helping a friend get info on her family. They were from Stephens Co. and in fact, that is where she still lives. I am wondering if you can tell me what funeral home might have had the services for someone who died about 1924 in Loco and is buried in the Loco Cem. His name was William H. Kent. We are trying to find out where he was born and the name of his parents. I will really appreciate your help. Thanks so much. Kathy Howry <mailto:howryksh@chickasaw.com>

Hello everyone! I am looking for information on Isaac Parks, he was born in DeWitt County, TX in March of 1846. 1st wife Martha Barber in Hope Cemetery in Stephens County and I am told his 2nd wife Nancy Floyd,Vandiver, Woody is buried in Comanche County. In some notes of a relatives, they had that he was buried in Bray. I don't know if that is the town or a cemetery named Bray! If anyone has any idea on this, I would appreciate any suggestions.
