I am searching for information on my husband's gr. grandparents. CHARLES DAVID and LAURE E. (GREEN) BOYLES were married 22 Nov 1883 in Walker Co.,Ga.. Charles was born 30 June 1865 in Walker Co.,Ga., and died 11 Dec 1947 in Stevens Co., Ok.. Their son SAMUEL ASA BOYLES married LENI LEOTI LANCASTER in 1908 in Clay Co., Tx., and lived most of their married life in Duncan Ok.. Their son HOWARD CLARK BOYLES (1913-1956) was my husband's father. He was only 9 when his father past away. His mother(now 82), remarried and does not remember much about the Boyles and Lancasters, because of several strokes she has had in the last few years. Appreciate any information on this family. Thanks in advance, Helen in Texas e-mail hboyles@pdq.net DMonkres@aol.com wrote: > Although I don't have an obit for Charley Ellis, I have some great memories > of him. Thanks Duane for that story! I'll send it on to a cousin. I know my greatgrandmother and Charley's mother were very close. Minnie would make frequent trips to OK to see family after her and my greatgrandfather and their kids move to CA in 1925. She also would go to OKC to see Archie Stewart often. She died in 1978 (born in 1888 in TX but lived all throughout southcentral OK until 1925) She married General Jackson York in Terral in 1905. If you have anymore, please send them anytime. Without the stories and personalities, this means nothing. I have a photo of Charlie with brother Roy and their mother. The boys were real young, photo probably taken in abt. 1910. If you know of anyone that would like it, I have it scanned. Becky York......Harrison/St. Maries ID >Although I don't have an obit for Charley Ellis, I have some great memories >of him. Although I don't have an obit for Charley Ellis, I have some great memories of him. My mother, Ella Monkres, worked in the purchasing department at Halliburton's with Charley; we also attended church with them. Charley was one of most humerous men I ever met. He was known for his hilarious jokes and his happy outlook. One thing that sticks in my mind is the time Pauline was after him to replace the toilet lid with a newer one that would complement the decor in their bathroom. He updated the fixture all right: he painted the lid and the seat Halliburton red. Good luck on finding the information you want. Duane Monkres Edmond, OK
Hi, we went a few weeks ago to the Duncan Genealogy Lib. It is in the old lib at 301 8th(east I think). They have alot of good information and are helpful. The census for 1900-1920 is or nearly complete. The 1900 census has birth year and month on it. They also have a list of cemetery records from Duncan Cem. They are open on the first Sat of each month. And yes there is plenty of places to stay overnight. Go out towards Marlow and I know there use to be a couple of places out there on the right hand side of the road. I now live in TX and we go back occ. when we do we stay with family. There are several older people that are around that can give you some information, too. Just have to see if you can locate them. My great aunt took us to see a lady that is 97 years old and she gave me some Willeford information. Said she remembered when my great grandfather use to do the washing of feet. I am unsure where Loco is but in Jefferson Co. (Addington) there is a man in his 80's and I think that I still have his information. He was helpful with Salmon information, gave me names and remembered some of them living there. There is alot of help out there if you just ask, alot of those people have lived there for generations and can give you information. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Robert & Jeanna Lowe AOL IM User ID: RobJeanna Yahoo! Could someone do a lookup in Duncan Cemetery (main cemetery on Hwy 81?) for Bill (possibly William or Walter) HAMILTON. He was born about 1913-1918 and died in auto accident late 1930s to 1941. I know he is buried in the Duncan Cemetery as I saw the grave many years ago. I have asked Stevens Co. Genealogical Society, Court House, and every other source in the county that I could think of for help, but they have not been able to come up with anything. I would like to know his exact birth & death date. Hello, How did Stephens County get it's name, please ? MyKat
Have a safe trip.
Thanks to each of you who responded to my request for information. It was very nice of you to take the time, and I appreciate it. Planning my trip will be easier now. Betty Cathcart
Hi Everyone, Have recently received news about a great event some of you may be interested in. Duncan will be host to the "World's Largest Garage Sale," on September 15 and 16, 2000. There will be approximately 3,000 garage sales all over town plus 100 + vendors set up in Fuqua Park, which is located on Highway 81 that runs north and south through Duncan. The Stephens County Historical Museum is located at the site of this park. This should be a wonderful way to meet the local people and perhaps find information or memorabilia pertaining to this area. I am advised to make reservations now for lodging...........many people come from far and wide for this event. See you there, Millie
The Duncan Chamber of Commerce has an excellent website. As for accomodations in Loco, I would guess that unless you can stay with your Aunt Susie, you should make arrangements to stay in Duncan. Someone else well need to tell you about the availability of info at the courthouse. The best of luck to you.
Loco is a VERY small town--no motels or hotels. Comanche is closer to Loco than Duncan. Your best bet would be to stay in Duncan. Duncan does have a web site. There is a Chisolm Trail Museum there that also might be of interest to you. Go to Duncan, Loco is very tiny place.
Hi; I went to Duncan a couple of weeks ago and the people at the courthouse were really nice about helping you to the right books. I don't know about accommodations for overnight, but the town is very pretty and have some nice little restaurants down town. Hello, I am looking for information on a Hiram Rial/Riel Eddy b1857 in Clarke Township, Durham Co. Ontario Canada, d-1916 in Duncan Oklahoma. This gentleman apparently on occasion went by the name Rial/Riel. Letter from the Manager of Hirams Rials employer at the time of his death. Dear Mr. Eddy, Your brother H.R Eddy passed suddenly away on the night of March 20th. He had been working on his car the day before and had eaten a hearty supper. He became sick shortly after his supper and was soon dead. Heart failure I beleive was the attributed to the death according to the attending physician. The Odd Fellows took charge of his remains and gave him a nice burial. Mr. Eddy was one of our best citizens and was highly esteemed by everyone that knew him and was well known too. He had been in the gin business for years and was widely known throughout the Southwestern part of Oklahoma. <SIG> The Manager of The Duncan Cotton Oil Mills, Duncan, Oklahoma ANY information would be greatly appreciated. Stephanie Eddy
