We have had great success with cemetery listing for Stephens County in the genealogy library there in Duncan. They are open on the first Sat. of each month, and some days during the week. If you are unable to travel to Duncan, I believe they stated they would do research for a fee (I do not recall how much or anything like that). We had found which son of a relative is in an unmarked grave just by these listings. They also have some obits from the Duncan Banner from that period and you might could get your grandmothers. I am the grandson of Myrtle Wilson and Walter T. Gilkey. Myrtle was the daughter of Sarah Smith and Radford Wilson, formerly of Yell Co. AR. I know that I must have relatives in the Duncan area because I have several old photos(passed down to me from my late uncle RV Gilkey)that show unkown relatives, and On the back it gives the location as "Duncan, OK". Furthermore, My research has revealed that my Greatgrandmother,Sarah(Smith)Wilson was living in Duncan when she died around 1970. She is also buried there.(I don't know what graveyard) My problem is that my family wasn't close and all my Wilson relatives here in AR. have moved away or passed on. My grandmother, Myrtle, had many bros. and sisters(Ruby,Hattie,Ethel,Buster,Roy and Jim) and I think some of them may have settled in or around Duncan. Also it is known that my Greatgrandfather, Radford Wilson, was murdered and is buried somewhere in OK. If anyone can give me any information at all about my relatives I would be most appreciative.
Thankyou for the information. Melodee Melnsam123 @aol.com

Hello. My wife, Sarah Ann Moore Macpherson, is a cousin of Martha Willeford, now of California. Sarah and Martha were daughters of William A. Moore of Wichita Falls, TX, and Kenneth L. Moore of Duncan, OK. Martha's husband, Eugene Willeford, is deceased. I joined the Stephens list because Sarah's great-grandparents, Leroy and Julia Gaines Atkins, are buried in Duncan. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rob & Jeanna Lowe <rjlowe@web-access.net> To: <OKSTEPHE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 15, 2000 8:26 PM Subject: Fw: [OKSTEPHE ] Willeford Reunion > Sorry, I forgot to tell everyone that it is going to be in Duncan, OK. > > Jeanna > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Rob & Jeanna Lowe" <rjlowe@web-access.net> > To: <OKSTEPHE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Saturday, July 15, 2000 10:22 PM > Subject: [OKSTEPHE ] Willeford Reunion > > > > There is a WILLEFORD reunion at the Simmons Center on August 5, at > 10:00am. > > We would love to have a large group of Willeford/Williford's there. > > > > If anyone is interested you can contact me or reply back to the group. > > > > Jeanna > > > > ============================== > Personalized Mailing Lists: never miss a connection again. > http://pml.rootsweb.com/ > Brought to you by RootsWeb.com. >

Posted on: Stephens Co. OK Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Stephens?read=340 Surname: LOVE, SMITH, UMPRYS ------------------------- The Murray County Sheriff's Office has recently recovered 3 stolen tombstones 1 mile south of the Murray/Garvin county line. The stones are small enough for a man to carry, weighing about 75 to 100 pounds each. I went to the Sheriff's Office and photographed the stones. The names are: LOVE, Richmond, died May 1, 1912, Age 76 Years; - SMITH, Mellisa,(note odd spelling) died June 25, 1916, 1863 - 1916; - UMPRYS, Jane, died Aug 12, 1876, Age 25 Years, d/o A & C UMPRYS. It is assumed that all 3 stones were stolen from the same cemetery. I have contacted the co-ordinator of the Garvin County OKGENWEB and we are currently working to locate a cemetery with these three surnames but have not had any luck. Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone on the list? We need to get these stones back to the proper cemetery and out of the Sheriff's 'evidence locker'. Any leads would be greatly appreciated - Dennis
