OK Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Stephens/365 Surname: ------------------------- Justine - There must have been two Bairds in Oklahoma, but neither were shown to be in Stephens County. On was in Le Flore County near Heavener. It had a post office from January 28, 1892 to August 25, 1898. That particular "Baird" was named for Wilson D. Baird, the first postmaster. The Baird in Cotton County is probably the one you would be interested in. It was located 12 miles west of Duncan, Oklahoma. It was named by John W. Scoggins, the first postmaster, for his wife's family name. It had a post office from December 5, 1901 to June 30, 1932. Hope this info will help.

    1. [OKSTEPHE ] Looking for a half brother
    2. Rob & Jeanna Lowe
    3. Hi, I told a cousin that I would send out a message and see about finding a half brother that her father told her about many years ago. At that time she was not ready to find him. Her father would have told her more if she had asked, but didn't and now is unable to ask her dad. The information that I have is what her father told her. The brother was a male child of course, probably born in Stephens County, OK in 1936 or 1937??? The child's mother was Genevieve. Think that the child took the fathers surname (WILLEFORD) and the parents where married for a short time. Would appreciate help in finding him. My Giesy family did not live in Stephens Co. OK. They were in Kansas and in Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory. Nevertheless, here is the information on them: My gggreat-grandmother was Harriet "Hattie" (Indian name: Bright Star) Giesy b. 25 Apr 1869 in Burlington, Coffey Co. KS; d. 22 Feb. 1922 in Eufaula, McIntosh Co., OK. She was the daughter of George Giesy and Edna Ward. She was orphaned and reared by her uncle, Henry Giesy. According to a family history written by Hattie's son, the Giesy family was enrolled in the Delaware or Lenape tribe prior to the Civil War, but removed from the tribal rolls due to Henry's siding with the South. 2. This doesn't go back to 1913, because I don't, but while growing up in Duncan, there was a family who lived behind us named Taliafero. (This would have been about '45 to '50.) Velma Taliafero (married name) was Indian, the daughter of Minnie Himes. Minnie had been raised in the ways of her tribe, and as a matter of fact, when Velma's grandmother died, there was an Indian ceremony at the Himes residence. Velma had a son who became a much sought after race horse trainer, and a daughter, Jewell, who became a beautiful model. That's about all I know. Hope it helps. Duane Monkres Edmond, OK

TALIAFERRO who probably lived in Stephens Co., OK (or the nearby area) around 1913. I do know he was in Duncan, OK at the home of Lee Woods for a Confederate veteran reunion on 1/1/1913. During the Civil War, Samuel served in Ashby's 2nd TN Cavalry, Co.G. Company G was composed primarily of men from Monroe Co., TN, but I don't know if Samuel was from that county or not. Samuel probably had a brother named "Richard D." who served in this same unit and company. In addition, I am researching the 2nd TN Cavalry and all Civil War veterans buried in Stephens Co, OK.
