It has come to my attention that these stockyards may sometimes be referred to as "The Fort Smith Stockyards". Please, share with me anything you know or tell me where to begin my search. From the "History of Sequoyah County" 1828-1975 book it says: The Horse and Mule auction, located in the north part of town, was opened in the early 1930's by the late Leon Williams. It grew to be one of the biggest auctions anywhere around. Later the stockyards were added and customers, both to sell and buy, came from miles around. Later the horse and mule auction was sold and moved away, but the stockyards remain, doing a big business. Veterinarian Dr E.H. Leonard with a office nearby, not only serves the stockyards but is a great help to the stockmen in the surrounding territory. Hope this helps you a bit.
