I don't think there is sufficient space on the internet to list all who were arrested for moonshine in Sequoyah County but if it was before 1907 try the federal court register for Ft. Smith, Sebastian County, AR for records.

my grandfather, George Walter Edwards and wife Suda Mae (Martin, I think) lived in Gore area around 1910. Had several children there: Opal, Seth Cordon, Jon Bill. I think my great grandfather (name unknown) may have died there. Family came to OK from Illinois via Arkansas. I think they may have a family gravesite or a group in a cemetary. anyone know anything of this? Thanks, John Edwards

From the Bakersfield Californian, Bakersfield, CA A private memorial service will be held Thursday, June 28, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodels Restaurant for Lewis Thomas Long, who died June 18, 2001, in Golden, MO. Louie was born December 7, 1927 in Marble City, OK. He and his family moved to the McFarland area when he was one year old. Before graduating from McFarland High School, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines to help serve his country during the Korean War. After discharge, he met and married Lily Chroman. They had three children; Lisa Marie, Leah Ann and Lewis Thomas, Jr. Louie farmed in the McFarland-Delano area for several years, then accepted a job with the Kern County Fire Department in Bakersfield. He retired as Fire Captain in 1983 after 27 years with the Fire Department. Louie loved to fish and travel. He journeyed to Mexico numerous times for sport fishing, and every year he would trek to the remote wilderness of Canada for his annual fishing trip to Eleven Sisters Lakes. During retirement he frequently traveled throughout the United States and Canada and visited friends all over the world. He lived for a number of years on Camano Island, WA, surrounded by the abundant, fish-filled waters of Puget Sound. Louie enjoyed his garden and his animals, and always had a soft spot in his heart for all small children. Recently, he purchased a home with property adjacent to Table Rock Lake (for easy-access fishing) in southern Missouri. It was there that he passed away. Louie was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle (Keck) Long; his brother Bill Long and sisters Kate Potorff and Faylene Hubbard. He is survived by his wife, Janet Long; his children, Lisa Meehan and husband Jim, Leah Huber, and Lewis Long Jr. and wife Cathy; grandchildren, John Huber and wife Dani, Christopher Huber, Jason Fransham and wife Joelle, Lacy Long, and Lucy Long; great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Ryan Fransham; favorite cousin, Major Byrd; special niece, Pam Carleton and husband Mike, and many friends.
To all who wrote regarding the info on the 1890 Dist census - you're welcome! Some, who have ancestors in Sequoyah District whose surname begins with H through Z, have asked how to get the film: I rented the film through the Morman Church's Family History Center - it was film number 1666299 and entitled: Cherokee Nation census, Sequoyah District, 1890 Schedule. Please note that if you order the film from someone else, it will probably have a different number if microfilmed by someone other than the Morman Church. This film contained other Districts also - the Illinois, Saline, Sequoyah, and Tallaquah (partial). This census is very different from Federal census....this was written in alphabetical order, and lists the head of household, wife & children, their race, age and the rest is about crops and farming. I think that maybe the census was originally written on cards or something else, then rewritten at a later date in alphabetical order - and I liked it, because it does make it easier to find your ancestors! It looks like it was written in a large book.
Will someone do an obit lookup for me? Norma Hill died the 5 or the 6 of this month in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. It should have been in the paper on July 7, 2001. Thanks,, Jane

Sharender, I am looking at the film at the Fort Worth Archives, if you want to contact them, the phone number is (817) 334-5525. I may not have the name exactly right, but it is close and the number at the archives is xr16, I believe. That information should give them enough to go on so you can get the "exacts". Oh, when I said "does anyone else know?" I thought maybe someone else from the list might know more about this census than I do. I surely hope it helps! Take care and go safely! I'm willing to look anywhere! If you could point me in the direction where I could look at this census, I will. From documents on which the information may or may not be correct, my Andersons (James & wife Amanda "molllie") were in the Ada and Redland areas. Part of the family was in the Redland area, some in the Muskogee area and at some time, in the Ada area. Sharander, Just a thought, but there is a 1890 First Territorial Census of Indian Territory. I am going through that right now. The districts are sometimes a little unclear, and it is long and not indexed (I've been working on it about 8 hours and am about 1/2 way through!), but it might be that your ancestors may be there. I'm not sure, but it may be worth checking into. Does anyone else know? I received the microfilm of the 1890 Cherokee Nation Census. It had the following Districts: Illinois, Saline, Sequoyah, and Tallaquah (partial). I was greatly disappointed - as I was looking for my Anderson ancestors in the Sequoyah District - to read the note saying: "The surnames of A through G were missing from the census book and therefore could not be microfilmed". So, the Sequoyah District begins with surnames beginning with "H". I post this just in case anyone else wanted to order the film and their surnames were between A and G.
Will someone send me the obituary for Norma Jo Hill? She just died either Thur. night the 5th or early Fri. morning the 6th of July 2001. I went to her funeral Monday but rode with a brother and wasn't able to get the obituary. Thanks it would mean a lot to me,,Jane
I recently found an article in the 17 Aug 1947 issue of the Daily Oklahoman about a Sigrid Trott who was a teacher at the Henderson Cherokee Indian School 16 miles north of Sallisaw - near Marble in the Cookson Hills. The article mentions students, George Christie, 9 and Carne Fogg, 12. She and her husband Eugene owned a farm. He died in spring of 47 or 47. She had taught at the school for several years. Does anyone have more information about this lady? I believe she was originally from Kansas.
