I'm really confused as to why a Roll Call is a bad idea to this person, Frank Chilton. Is he just mad because Roll Call is in the subject line and not surnames? I'm still fairly new to Genealogical mailing lists, and thought the idea of a roll call is a good one, it lets every single person on the mailing list know what surnames we are looking for, regardless of whether we place them in the subject line or the body of the letter. I'm sending this to the whole list and not just the person who sent the email at the bottom of this letter since this Frank person did send this email to the entire list and not individually to the fourteen persons who, according to him, erroneously and unforgivingly put Roll Call in the subject line of their email. I'm not indignant, just confused as to why the subject line of a mailing list should make someone so angry. Actually I think it's kind of amusing :) have a nice day, Diane P. S. Best part of this whole thing is I get to delete Frank's letter now :))) Subject: [OKROOTS] Names Go Here, Not ROLL CALL To: [email protected] I delete every message that has Roll Call in the subject line, which means I don't see your message. If you don't care enough to type in the name of the family you are trying to find, I don't care enough to read it. Today I have deleted fourteen messages. I am sure there will be some of you that will reply to this message. If so, reply to my e-mail address, not to the entire list. The problem is that too many of you don't know how to reply to an individual address. You seem to think that the whole world is waiting with baited breath to see what you have to say. Only the guilty parties will reply with indignation.
