Hi List, I'm new at this list stuff. I need help identifying which each of the following ration books enabled the purchase of which items. I have three World War 2 ration books, two of which still contain "stamps." These were in my mothers "things." As I was a 12-14 yr. old at the time I do not remember which stamps were for what. I would like to put what information I can with these and include them in my personal/family history collection. I remember that canned goods, meat, sugar and shoes were rationed using stamps. I don't remember the process for getting a tire for a vehicle. However (I do remember what a long frustrating process it was for dad to get a tire for the car. We lived on a farm in Wisconsin, and had only three usable tires left on the car. It took all summer to get whatever it was that was needed to get a fourth tire. Meanwhile, once a week dad would hitch his team of horses to a wagon, and with three or four of us kids aboard, drive to the nearest (very small) town for essentials. If it was a hot day it did not include anything that could not stand the heat.) WAR RATION BOOK ONE was a Canning Certificate, issued 20 June 1942, and I am sure it would have been for sugar. WAR RATION BOOK TWO does not have a date nor does it designate what type of goods it allows to be purchased. There are two partial pages of stamps, one blue and one red There would have been 24 stamps to a page. On the blue page the top row was printed across with 8. The 2nd row down was printed with 5. The 3rd row down with 2, and the bottom row with 1. Each stamp also has a letter, vertically on the rows from right to left they are U V W X Y Z. The two vertical rows remaining of the red stamps are numbered the same as the blue stamps. The letter on what would have been the left edge of the page have the letters M and the one the to the right of it has a L. WAR RATION BOOK No. 3 does not have a date, and does not indicate what it allows to be purchased. This book contains almost four complete pages of small blue/gray stamps, and is marked with a Ration Stamp no., from 1 to 48. Each page also has a picture, one page of a ship (looks like an aircraft carrier to me,) one of an airplane(looks like a fighter,) and one a tank, and one of a howitzer. All of the books have Local board numbers, City, State, Signature of issuing officer, my full name, age, sex, weight and are stamped with various stamps and numbers. WAR RATION BOOK NO 1, also has color of eyes and hair plus the date it was applied for. Thanks for any information, Bev
