I think I read somewhere in a History of Oklahoma book that Will Roger's family was on the Trail of Tears???? Where was the family from before they got to Oklahoma? I'm not related to them or anything but this list seems to have more famous people than any of the other lists I am on and it is always interesting to hear about them. :) Nannette This is from the OKLAHOMA ALMANAC Golden Anniversary Edition 1957-58. "Will Rogers was Cherokee Indian on both sides of his family. His great-grandfather, Robert Rogers, a British army officer, married Betty Cordray, who was half Cherokee. Their son, Robert, married Sally Vann, a full-blood. Clem Vann Rogers, in turn, married Mary Schrimsher, a quarter-blood Cherokee. Mary's grandmother, Catherine, was a full-blood who married a man of HollandDutch descent, John Gunter. Their child, Elizabeth Gunter, married Martin Matthew Schrimsher, a Welshman." Clem Vann Rogers was Will's father and Mary Schrimsher his mother. Howard Grisso SMITH KANE BATESEL MOLLOY MORRISON Medford, OR ----------------------------------------------- FREE!
