If I find a member of my family in an area, one of the first things I do is acquire a map of the area. I have an old Atlas here at home I use, and I have a large map of Oklahoma. I have copies of various historical maps of Oklahoma as well, that I copied out of "The historical Atlas of Oklahoma" by John W. Morris, who consequently wrote one of my favorite books "Ghost Towns of Oklahoma". Maps tell you other things as well: Where was the water source? What roads were in existence? How populated was the area? What is the nearest large city to the home of my ancestors? A note on Vinita: It is the home of one of Two state mental hospitals. The other one is in Norman. Leave it to me to know where the looney bins are. Nalora
