Hi Glenn, Was reviewing the OKROOTS posts and realized you had a VAN GUNDY surname. I'm curious about the name because my gg grandfather was F.G. BUTLER b. 22 Feb 1837, AR d. 15 Apr. 1905, Vernon, Wilbarger Co., TX. Family history says he wondered and was a "hobo", which was a term used for the men who roamed around the country workin' as farm and ranch laborers. For years we believed his name was Felix Alexander BUTLER until we found his Jack Co., TX marriage record, Parker and Jack Co., TX land records and several years census (Tarrant and Parker) stating F.G. BUTLER. His youngest son, Alexander BUTLER's bible stated his name was Felix GUNDY BUTLER, but I've pondered whether it might have been Felix GRUNDY BUTLER. My grandmother Malissia Josephine "Josie" (BUTLER) was F.G.'s second born child and she passed away in Jackson Co. OK in 1968. However, she was born and went to school in Whitt, Parker Co., TX. Upon visiting that cemetery, unfortunately, I found no BUTLER's, many PATTON's and a husband and wife Van GUNDY. At this point, I'm really beginning to wonder if he changed his name. Vernon, Wilbarger Co., TX has provided excellent assistance and researched their card file for me many times, but to no avail. So, if he is indeed buried there, it must be an unmarked, unrecorded grave. And, another possibility is that the railroad came through Vernon in 1905 and the cemetery was relocated across the tracks. I look forward to hearing back from you, Debi WILSON/HESS/COLLINS/PORTER/HENDERSON - MUSE/LAMB/HALLOWELL/BEACH/BUTLER/DILL/DALTON/BRASWELL/POPE - TATE/MICHAEL/WOODS/BIVENS/SHULL/ROGERS/SMITH/OSBORNE - REAVES/ANTHONY/GUNTER/KIGER/BARNES/CLARK - Glenn Belcher wrote: > > Newfield/Newfelt/Neufieldt: Dewey County, OK > Van Gundy: Dewey County, OK [or close to it] > Brown: Dewey County, OK [or close to it]
