I received information from another mailing list that I want to pass along (with the disclaimer that I have no persomal knowledge of the information). According to the SS Administration, they are raising their fees for copies of original applications of social security numbers. The increase is effective on requests postmarked after July 1, 2001. If you know the SS number, the fee increases from $7.00/request to $27.00/request. If the SS number is unknown, the fee increases from $16.50/request to $29.00/request. Looks like the Feds have found another revenue source. Jackie :(
