    1. [OKROOTS] CAUDLE FAMILY
    2. Hi all. I am at it again with my search for the Caudle family. I wish to Thanks Liz Freeman and the rest of the list members who were so very very kind with their assistance. Unfortunately i still haven't found out where Ross Caudle met Will Rogers. I have emailed the Will Rogers Museum but they have not replied. Does anyone else have suggestions on who or where to contact. The Department of Education said they had no information on the schools from that time period. I have a couple of questions to ask. Ross Caudles step mother, Nellie Brandt Caudle was a mid wife in the area around Claremore and Oogalah. Sorry if I spelled it wrong.. Would midwifes have to go to the county seat and register? Did they help the local town doctor? In the 1900 Census, Indian Territory, (Thanks to Joy Elkins) they were shown to be renting where they lived. My mom told me that right before they left they sold their property. I have tried the BLM records site with negative results? I am at a loss at who, what, and where to go from here. Any suggestions? I received a very pleasant surprise in the mail the other day. A cousin sent me a picture of Ross Caudle while he was living in New Mexico. The picture was taken about one month prior to his death. Now I know what he looked like. Avie

    3. Avie: Have you tried the OK State Library in the Oklahoma Historical Society Building. In the lobby of the building, they have many artificts/photos on Will Rogers. It may be they have more information. While waiting for the library to open one day, I reread all the info in the lobby. If I remember correctly, one article said he dropped out of school in the 7th grade (I may not have that right). But if that is the case, I'm sure they could tell you the years he was in school and where he went to school. My experience with researching schools in OK is that the school records are maintined in the county where the school is located - some in the school system itself, some in the county records. I have found school records back as far as 1911 in four different counties. If your Caudle person were into flying, he could have easily met Rogers in one of the Air Shows. Good luck. 3. Avie: I do so apologize. Forget everything I said in the earlier email about Will Rogers. It was Wiley Post who dropped out of school early, it was Wiley Post who was around the air show. Wiley and Will were killed together in an airplane crash off Point Barrow, Alaska. Blame it on a senior moment. But you might still try the State Library in the Oklahoma Historical Society Building and still try the school records in the county. Sorry about the mixup. Liz Freeman
