    2. Obtained this information recently and wanted to share it in case it helps someone else in their research. Taken from Mountain View Times, Thursday, March 23, 1944. Volume Six Mrs. Mattie VanKirk Buried Here Tuesday. Mattie Susan Finley was born in Williamsburg, Kentucky, January 9, 1885, and passed away March 17, 1944, in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 59 years, 3 months and 8 days. With her parents she moved from Kentucky to Kansas and from there to Dover, Oklahoma where they settled in 1889. There she met and married Trevelyn VanKirk. They came to Mountain View when the town was across the river and was a resident of this community until three years ago when she moved to Tucson to improve her health. She is survived by her husband, D.T. VanKirk and six children all of whom were present for funeral services. They are Claude VanKirk of Tucson, Roy VanKirk and Eloise Vincent of Pampa, Texas, Leah Emmons of Cushing, Ruby Jackson of Bloomington, Indiana and Fred VanKirk who is in the Armed Forces. Two brothers, Charles Finley of Oakland, California and Ben Finley of Richmond, California were unable to be present. There are five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. J.J. McNeely of Granite officiating, assisted by Rev. W.Y. Switzer. Mrs. S.E. Davenport, Mrs. Evalu Franklin, Tom Gibson, and W.Y. Switzer formed a quartet for the musical numbers, with Mrs. Lucy Dickson accompanist. Miss Mildred Franklin sang, "In the Garden." Bearers were Ben Stinson, H.N. Kinney, J.F. Hoover, Pierce Justice, S.E. Davenport and R.M. Kobs. Out of town relatives to attend funeral services held here Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. D. T. VanKirk were Claude VanKirk of Tucson, Arizona, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vincent and children Joe Wiley and Nancy Sue of Pampa, Texas, Roy VanKirk of Pampa, Texas, Mrs. Charles Emmons of Cushing, Lieut, and Mrs. Dan Jackson of Bloomington, Indiana, and Fred VanKirk of the U.S. Army who is being transferred from Berkley, California to training in Goldsboro, North Carolina where he is attached to communications.
