I attended our VFW dinner and meeting Fri night. One of the members is a Johnson and he gave this to me . Thought I'd pass it on. At every meeting we get to talking about his Johnsons and mine. Haven't found any connection but it sure is interesting. Anyone connect to any of the below? Jean LOGAN Served TEXAS Republic Jasper Newton Logan was born in 1844 in Bienville Parish, LA the son of Hillary and Abigail Wallace Logan, wo where emigrants from Edgefield, SC. With his parents and eight brothers, he came to Texas in 1855, settling in Coryell County. Jasper served two yrs on the frontier of Texas fighting Indians before entering the Civil War for 4 yrs. He was wounded three times and was a prisoner of war. He was captured at Arkansas Post. In 1865 he married Laura Tezanna Haggard, dau of Squire and Elizabeth Chandler Haggard, Squire having come to Texas in 1836 and serving in the Army of the Republic as a captain. Sometime in 1871, Jasper and Texanna came to Johnson County with his brother W. H. and wife Rietta Jane Logan. WH purchased a home at 117 Harman St. Jasper settled in the Buel area.where he owned and operated a country store. The store was located just past the Buel Baptist Church in the area where the McKees now reside. He also was the community reporter for the newspaper in Cleburne. There were 7 Logan children in this family. Viola married a King and moved to Oklahoma, Augustus Young married Joanna Edwards, Americus "Meck" married Bert Moore, Newton married Annie Laura Harden, Leo married AJ Davis, Nettie married ET King and Adelia who died at age 21. Many decenents of these children still reside in Cleburne. Newton and Laura both died at a young age, leaving 5 small children to live with their grandparents, Jasper and Texanna. They were Ernest, Berlie, Verious "Pete", Leola (windowed by AJ Grigsby and now Mrs. Joe Stephen and Lollie (Mrs. Buch Johnson) The grandparents moved into Cleburne about 1912, operating a rooming house until their deaths in 1918 and 1928 respectively. The Logans were instrumental in organizing the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Bienville Parish, LA. and the First Baptist Church in Gatesville in Coryell County, always taking part in community affairs and serving on various committees.
