I found an old note of my grandmothers with a family tree on it and she wrote on it that in her mothers day it was common to name all or one of her childrens middle name as her surname. My Fathers middle name is her maiden surname and My mothers middle name is her mothers maiden surname. My own first daughter has 2 middle names.... one is my maiden surname. Hope that helps.
