    3. They are called "North Base" & "South Base". North Base is where Westheimer Field (airport) is. Small business jets and private planes land there. When I was growing up near there, one of the flight plans used to go fairly near my house. South Base is east of the University. Some of the old WWII temporary buildings are still there on both bases which are owned by the University. Businesses have located on North Base, also the YMCA and the National Severe Storms Laboratory is there. For years, there was a huge man-made hill near I-35 & Robinson, it was quite a landmark. I think it was a target range in the war. You knew when you drove passed it going south that you had reached Norman.
