    1. Re: [OKROOTS] Martins and a Question for the List Mother
    2. I forgot to mention, I did find an Amanda Martin enumerated in the 1900 OK Territorial census in Dewey County, Sicle Twp. She was born July 1881 in NC. She had no spouse or children living with her. There was a John D. Dyer living with her as a boarder. That was the only Amanda that I could find. Tom S

    1. Re: [OKROOTS] Martins and a Question for the List Mother
    2. Roberta I could not find a James/Jim Martin with a wife named Sophia in Leflore County in the 1900 Oklahoma Territorial soundex, nor in the 1910 Oklahoma Soundex. Have you communicated with Howezthat@aol.com(Kathy)? She is researching the Martin's also. She posts on this list. Another lady that is looking for Martin's is kathy2468@usa.net (Kathy). I wonder if this is coincidence or are the two Kathy's the same and using two e mail addresses? Tom S

    1. [OKROOTS] Obit Notice in the 1923 "Antlers American"
    2. Millard New
    3. I found the following information: ref: "Some Pusmataha Co, Okla. Deaths, 1900 - 25," by Kay Black "(22 Mar 1923) Albion - - Jack New of Clayton died and the brother had gone there from Albion on Thursday for the funeral. Clayton Cemetery?" Jack New was my Great Uncle. I have not been able to locate his grave site. Was wondering if this article actually says more than was copied in this reference. Was wondering if someone who has access to this paper (I assume it might be on microfilm in the Antlers Library) would mind looking for this article. 22 March 1923 was the date of the article, not the death. 3. I think I read somewhere in a History of Oklahoma book that Will Roger's family was on the Trail of Tears???? Where was the family from before they got to Oklahoma? I'm not related to them or anything but this list seems to have more famous people than any of the other lists I am on and it is always interesting to hear about them. :) Nannette This is from the OKLAHOMA ALMANAC Golden Anniversary Edition 1957-58. "Will Rogers was Cherokee Indian on both sides of his family. His great-grandfather, Robert Rogers, a British army officer, married Betty Cordray, who was half Cherokee. Their son, Robert, married Sally Vann, a full-blood. Clem Vann Rogers, in turn, married Mary Schrimsher, a quarter-blood Cherokee. Mary's grandmother, Catherine, was a full-blood who married a man of HollandDutch descent, John Gunter. Their child, Elizabeth Gunter, married Martin Matthew Schrimsher, a Welshman." Clem Vann Rogers was Will's father and Mary Schrimsher his mother. Howard Grisso SMITH KANE BATESEL MOLLOY MORRISON Medford, OR ----------------------------------------------- FREE! 1. [OKROOTS] FROM LIST MOM - First Quarter Report - 2001
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, here it is, time for the First Quarterly Report for 2001. Can you believe how fast the time has passed? Please take note of my new e-mail address, kathleenburnett@earthlink.net and change your address books, the old efortress.com account will be closed by the end of the month. The OKROOTS Mailing List has 473 members, 348 on the Regular list and there are 125 members on the Digest List. If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/. Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller's Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Just a reminder so this list is better for each of us the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at kathleenburnett@earthlink.net There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as the first message from a members says Says "Happy Birthday John" and then John says "Thank you" and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday John". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. kathleenburnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and yourwillingness to help make this list the success it is. 3. Vickie The Fulton Co., Illinois Genealogical Society has members who have gone through the books of several of the funeral homes in the area. They have published these records and the society sells the books. I believe that the genealogical society makes a small amount on each book. That way all the information is available, without bothering the funeral homes original records. Many libraries in the area have these books. If this is something that you are interested in, I am sure that they could help you get started. I think that there might be about 10 or more of them available...from the mid 1800's on. Is there a genealogical society that might be interested in this? Hope this might be an idea for you.
